Apparently not when it comes to smartphones, when they're switched off then they're off full stop.

But is something like this really a deal breaker :?: :? ...

I charge mine (iPhone, not SG) before bed, leave it turned on (not even airplane mode) and it's never lost more than 1 or 2% of battery when I wake up.

For charging I just plug it into the PC via USB when I get in from work and whilst I'm sat at the PC, takes ages to charge up this way but I'm in no hurry and I don't need 100% charge to get through tomorrow anyway.

Re battery life, I have heard in the past that in order to maintain the life and performance of a battery, it is best to fully charge the battery and fully discharge it before charging again. Is this principle still relevant or have things moved on now?

Just scanned the booklet and it all it says is that overcharging may reduce battery life.

Bit of a late reply to a query way back up the page but if like me you are on a limited internet usage you can easily turn this off. I was a bit surprised that even when I wasn't going online a lot I'd get a warning that I was nearing my limit about 20 days through ther month.

Was told by the O2 shop that the phone goes on line to update maps, functions etc etc in the background. To switch this off go to settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, use packet data, "untick" it, go back to main menu. When you want to go online, go back to use packet data and "tick" it. Gives an "attention you may incur charges" message, ignore this and select ok. Go back to main menu and play on internet. Switch it back off when finished as above.

Hope this helps other techniphobes!!

Samsung Google Nexus S Model i9023

Take into consideration that the review above is a year old.

P.S are you sure that your other half isn't hoping/expecting to get this for xmas :?: ...

She saw it on the gadget show so probably yes RB but my budget is not going that far which is why i am asking if an older model will basically do the same thing.

Her current phone is not even a smartphone, she wont want every latest gizmo going and something near will do just fine. Apps, internet connectivity and a touchscreen is all she wants.

Then the older version will more than do the job, main difference between the two is that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has moderately higher specs plus the latest version of the Android OS (which is going to be made available to other Android phones, like the SGS2, but not sure that Google Nexus S is going to get it :? )...

Had Sky Go for ages. Think my ex traded her S2 in for an iPhone. Surprising given the amount of "Customer support" for the S2's 'problems' on here....

Lost my Galaxy S2 at the weekend and had a new one delivered yesterday first thing.

Was happy in a way because mine had a cracked screen and 2 buttons had ceased to function after another drop so it was struggling anyway.

The new one seems to have been upgraded a bit, some functions and graphics updated for the better imo and I'm absolutely delighted with it.

I'm sure Iphones are good but this really is an amazing piece of kit.

What is this and how do I do it - indeed, should I do it...?

its the latest operating system for android phones. yes you should, if you download an install samsung kies (the pc/phone) interface software on your pc. you do it through that. apparently it won't do it over the phones own internet connection. just plug your phone in to the pc & the software will tell you if the update is available (it was staggered for different networks).

To clarify, is it not connecting with the PC at all or is it just Kies that isn't connecting?

As long as the apps that you use on a regular basis work with ICS then yes, if there's any that don't then you need to weigh up the pros & cons of upgrading.

I haven't, mainly because I don't want to lose access to the Sky Go app (waited long enough to get it  ) but I've also heard some (not all) SGS2 users complain that battery life is worse than it was before upgrading so as the battery on mine is pretty good I'm a bit hesitant to load the update.

Perhaps those that have already upgraded could confirm any pros/cons they've found over the gingerbread OS :?: ...

Yep any pc..

I've had problems in the past getting Kies to connect successfully to my SGS2 but my PC has at least always managed to register that I've connected my phone to it.

As OTA updates aren't an option perhaps there's some info in the following links that can help :?: :
