So the papers are talking about a right snarl up. On Friday I need to drive from Bromley to a B&B half way up the M40.

Which way would you go?

option 1: M25 and sit it out - bearing in mind lots of traffic heading to Reading Festival - will be slow.

option 2: South circular and M4 trying to avoid the problems on the south circ at Forest Hill

option 3: is any FISO'on going to reveal their Sarf London driving secrets, rumours of useful back ways abound....

Try and do it at a sensible time. M25 is horrible on friday afternoons for some reason, presume the rest will be the same.

I work in Bromley and if I were doing this journey it would be a no brainer. Down to Orpington, M25, M40 job done. I'd rather be sitting in traffic on the M25 than having pricks cut me up through Catford, Lewisham and the rest.

Haven't been up that way for a few years but when having to go south  north with a lorry I found it easier to go straight through the middle, A202 over the Vauxhall Bridge and pick up the A40 off the (A5) Edgeware Road?

Its double the mileage though isn't it? Although I take your point about south London!

Yeah, thought about that route, or also A21 - then up to Elephant, across to Vauxhall Bridge then either round the enbankment, Warwick road and the Westway....

decisions decisions....

Thanks all.

Don't do it. I've done the journey myself enough times. M25 shouldn't be too bad that time of day

Traffic starts getting heavy from around mid-afternoon on a Friday, assuming there are no accidents on the M25 at the usual places it's probably the quickest way to go. Good luck! :-)
