Just seen this. Knew the name but couldn't quite picture the face, then clicked on the link and realised it was Mr Lucas from Are You Being Served - part of the original classic line up before some other bloke took over his role.

Didn't realise he was 76. RIP.

Not too many of the cast left now. Mollie Sudgen has gone, Wendy Richard too young, John Inman and now Trevor Bannister. Think Frank Thornton is still going and maybe Nicholas whats is face with the big ears.

All gone to the big Grace Brothers in the Sky. I bet young Mr Grace is still there, mythering over pay rises whilst being cared for by some dolly bird :D

Only Frank Thornton left of the floor staff (and he was the older boss!).

He is 90 now, spoke of last seeing Trevor Bannister at his birthday party.

Quality telly.

Was it? I loved it at the time and that was all that counted. It was the 70s, I was a kid, I didn't want to know better!

I had the box set in the old VHS days.

It came with a free "Mrs Slocombe's Pussy" ( a glove puppet :D )

Dumped the cassettes. Still got the puppet though 8-)

I did. Not the Nine O'Clock News changed my life.

That came 7 years later. A long time for a kid, even a sandal wearing, Guardian reading one

It was a classic portrait of Britain in decline.

Sorry to hear that he’s gone. Here’s a cover version of the theme tune, by the ever beautiful Coil. Going up!

1979 was the first episode.

The beginning of comedy. I would have been 14 and it was like an awakening.
