Before every guest artist starts singinging on the X Factor they put up on screen a list of their achievements, which I always find a bit dubious. Tonight for instance before Kelly Rowland (who ?) began to sing it stated that she had sold 80 million records world wide (what ?)

Over a period of 21 years from 1964-1985 The Beatles sold approximately 75 million records, so could someone tell me how a nonentity like Kelly Rowland has managed to better this in a relatively short career. :?

Destinys Child were very succesful world wide and she had that number 1 with Nelly, which unlike the DC songs, I found intensely irritating.

The population of the earth is greater now than in the 60's so yes artists will sell a greater number of albums worldwide than in the 60;s.

I think you miss the point... it's not that there are more people. It's that we have the internet

Pa, I think you need to ask yourself where 75 mill came from.
Personally I think you are quoting the Beatles total album sales and not the zillions of singles they also sold, whereas I guess the 80 mill Destiny Child sales is a combo.

In the 60's, 70's and 80's the only way you could listen to music was to buy it on vinyl whereas nowdays you can download it to your hearts content. I don't for a minute believe that a couple of hits with Destiny's Child and a solitary number one could amount to more records sold than what undoubtedly the biggest band in the world could sell over 21 years !! It's a total no brainer.

Kelly Rowland's sales include all records she made with Destiny's Child.
According to wikipedia the Beatles has sold 100 million records by Feb 65.
They have sold 2.3 billion worldwide to date so are quite rightly far superior to Kelly Rowland.

Not bad for a non entity.

The big difference between Kelly and the Beatles is Kelly Rowland is a predominately US superstar, the Beatles were predominately British superstars. Therefore the fanbase is instantly larger.

They are both global superstars, so not sure the US/British element is relevant. The bottom line is, as previously posted, Pa is comparing apples and pears. The Beatles have sold hundreds of millions of records within the period he stated (and considerably more since then), the 75 mill stat quoted by Pa is for album sales only.

Like everything. The way the numbers are counted changes, (esp with t'internet)

therefore the stats can say anything you want them too.
