I've always wet shaved and fancied treating myself to an electric razor, after loads of online research and review reading this one seemed the best but still like all other products had a few bad reviews too so wondered if anyone had one to offer more info on it or to offer any other razors as recommendations.

My budget is up to £75. I found the R6130 on Argos' website at £65 and a quick jump onto pricerunner took it down to £35 at Curry's.

So if anyone uses one that they'd highly recommend or have this particular one I'd be interested to know

Cheers

CT

I use the R5193 and it's quite good apart from one of the 3 discs will fall out now and then due to its pivot feature but you quickly learn to reattach it in a few seconds.I've only used it on dry shave so far.I mainly use this type instead of wet shave razors as my skin isn't so cut resistant so of the electric shave options this gives good results compared to my previous Philishave.

Don't know where I got 93 from.Anyhow that's the one. It's good once you get used to the flimsy design of the 3 cutters when compared to a sturdy Philishave. It seemed like a toy when I first tried it and didn't think it'd last in one piece but infact it lasted quite well and in the same condition as first got it.The recharge facility is straight forward and it's keeping the blades' sharpness at least in the time I've used it.I guess that's the titanium which seems a major difference to the Philishave.

Am I being stupid here?

Can you use electric shavers on wet shave?

Quick side questions - sorry to OP but hope ok to post here.

I've got a Remington beard trimmer I bought abroad in Europe. None of the instructions were in English so chucked them away. I've not find a tiny plastic bottle of - I don't know what?

Is this fluid for the trimmer to clean and sharpen the blades - if so, how do you use it. Or is it oil to use on my face after shaving? As you can imagine, I don't fancy trying either, in case of wrecking the trimmer or wrecking my face, so wanted to know if anyone knew?

Thanks

I think some electric shavers are designed to do wet shaves too like the ones that release the gel, right?

the liquid in the bottle I can only think is lubricant for the blades? a quick google is the answer

@bloggie, I've actually never tried razors with the 3 rotating blades, only the long foil ones, always find my neck to be the main area of issue so thought the 3 circles may cover the contours of that area a little better

It is pivoting so does seem to have good coverage.

If you do a search under my name with key word as shaver you will find a thread with others views. On my phone, otherwise would post the link

As a senior citizen,I've tried numerous types of wet and dry razors in my lifetime.

In my twenties and thirties I swopped between foil and rotary electrics, without really finding any of them giving me the close shave achievable with a blade that I much preferred.

Eventually with the arrival of Gillette's Mach3 razor I concluded nothing would be likely to improve on it and stopped seeking anything else,as I reckoned only the need to keep seeming to achieve some new technical breakthrough to maintain market share would see newer models being marketed.

The last time I went to buy replacement Mach3 blades, the chemist drew my attention to a special offer Gillette had going on their Mach3 disposable razors, which worked out cheaper than just buying the blades alone,so I stocked up on those which I'm still using.

However, having read this thread yesterday I had it in mind when I took my newly delivered Daily Mail back to bed with me at 6 a.m. this morning and on turning to the sports pages came across a large "Daily Mail Special Half Price Offer" ad on page 66 for the Remington F7790 TRIPLE FOIL "reduced from £120 to £60 post free,
with teflon & titanium coated foil, washable under the tap for easy cleaning, can be used corded or cordless
1 hour charge gives 1 hour shaving time,or 5 minute charge gives enough power for a single shave
LCD fuel gauge shows charge remaining; complete with charge stand
automatic worldwide voltage selection

.....and I thought to myself that if I had one of those,I could keep it by my bed and shave whilst reading the paper in bed before getting up and then just finish off later with a mirror the sideburns and check I hadn't missed anything.....if I had £60 to spare

I had a quick look at a few websites before posting this and found this model on Currys @ £140,Argos @ £65,Amazon @ £58.53

As Amazon say they've only 6 left and Currys say they're out of stock at present,my guess is that it's a clearance offer and the model is due to be replaced soon.
Pity I haven't got £60 to spare or I'd be tempted. I'll just have to keep pretending I'm still a young man and strip to the waist in the depths of winter to wet shave !

If you switch from wet shave to any dry shaver it takes at least a month for your skin to get used to it, so don't judge it until then.

Probably why I've never been able to get on with any electric shaver. Didn't realise it took that long to adapt.

Keep meaning to give it another go, but then just think - why bother when my blades do a perfectly good job.

Is there any advantage to dry shaving, other than the obvious 'you don't need to be at the sink'?

edit: and before Blah Blah starts, I'm talking about shaving my face, not my legs

and grob throws a spanner in the works with that shaver!!!!!!!

Very impressed with what I read and know what i'm getting with a foil razor as opposed to a rotary, the price increase from the 2 i've so far considered isn't a bother, may pop down to Comet to see if its in stock on Saturday, cheers grob

@groomyd, yeh thats what they say on the razor adverts that a month should be allowed

Likewise. Don't often have a dry one, either! Just get all stubbly until my wife complains :-)

That's similar to the Amazon price, which is inclusive of free delivery via their Super Saver deal.
Incidentally, although I didn't mention it in my list above, the FF7790 features both flex and pivot technology, and thus "follows the angles of your neck, chin and jaw line",as someone(maybe on Woolster's thread) said they had a problem shaving their neck(it may have been a poster called giraffe  )

For what it is worth, I used to only wet shave. I tried to use an electric in my early twenties but just felt that every single hair was being ripped out of my face and I was just in agony (probably a cheap electric). Interesting to hear that it takes about 30 days for your face to get used to it.

So I continued with wet shaving, similar to grob, mainly using Gillette mach 3. My only issue was and still is that a couple of days after shaving I get terrible irritation where my shirt collar hits my neck and come out in a huge red rash. I only ever shaved every 2-3 days as my afternoon shadow takes at least 2 afternoons to appear but shaving on raw skin was becoming unbearable and very uncomfortable. To prevent that from happening I stopped "shaving against the grain" and spent a lot of time, money and research trying to find good products to put on my skin to help prevent this.

I started with all of the Kings of Shaves products before moving to Clinique's Post Shave Healer which did the job for a while. Now I only use Lab Series. They have great products, although they can be pricey but their 3 in 1 Post Shave ointment is top drawer. Funnily enough, I was in a department store the other month and they had 6 tubes on discount because their boxes had been damaged. Who needs a box when you're buying a tube of ointment? Seemed a weird concept to reducing the price but took advantage nevertheless.

Fortunately I've now moved to The Netherlands and my current job does not expect me to shave - 1st time in 15 odd years. So now I have my trimmer and give myself a grade 2 once every couple of weeks (ON MY FACE) - although always use Lab Series straight after!

The product R5193 used by my self and it's quite good apart from one of the few discs will fall out now and then due to its attached feature but you quickly learn to reattach it in a few seconds.I've only used it on dry shave so far.I mainly use this type instead of wet shave razors as my skin isn't so cut resistant so of the electric shave options this gives good results as compared to the other products

I thought I'd read those exact words earlier on this thread. Perhaps it's unfamiliarity with the use of the quote button,as a first time poster ? :? Hopefully not another new WUM.
