Block defence the way to go for WDT success?

Apparently not.

In the 18 weeks so far, a block defence has won it just 4 times.
A semi block has won it twice.

Week 1 - 3 Liverpool
Week 4 - 5 Spurs
Week 6 - 5 Fulham
Week 7 - 3 Chelsea
Week 17 - 4 Chelsea
Week 18 - 5 Chelsea

How many of the winning top 100 each week have been blocks?

That might be one for JPK to answer.

Week 1 - Liv semi won it…. 5 random teams, all were Liverpool blocks
Week 2 - mix won it…. 5 random teams, no blocks/semis
Week 3 - mix won it… 5 random teams, 3 mixes, one stoke semi, one city semi.

Raw stats for weeks 1-18

Week Number with number of teams in top 100 with Back 6 from the same club

Code:
wk   3    4    5    6
1    81   63   51   16
2    21   5    2    0
3    63   32   12   0
4    49   34   29   16
5    44   16   8    2
6    45   20   8    2
7    44   21   10   5
8    26   7    6    6
9    38   14   7    7
10   32   14   7    7
11   45   11   3    3
12   53   30   22   22
13   42   21   13   13
14   34   11   6    6
16   23   7    3    3
17   48   20   14   14
18   27   17   10   10

e.g. in week 1 81 teams had at least 3 def/gk from the same club including extra picks, in the same week 63 teams had at least 4

so it could be that 81 had Reina/Carra/Skrtl and 63 had at Reina/Carra/Skrtl/Agger

16 teams were already total Liverpool blocks and the added a further Liverpool defender

----

IMO blocks & semis are a fairly successful but in reality it's all down to that lucky star man pick

Next analysis will be top 100 teams and starman spread.... 8-)

Not sure if this helps….

So the column on the right is the number of clean sheets kept that weekend.
The column on the left is the number of defenders/keeper from the same team that the winner had (also highlighted by the yellow boxes). These figures include the added WDT defender.

All it means is that a block is probably best in weeks where there arent many Clean sheets about :P

Not sure it does Suzy to be honest.

The 6 weeks with the lowest number of clean sheets;

7 (2) - someone with a chelsea trio won it. 56% of winners didnt even have a trio.
8 (3) - someone with 2 pairs won it. 74% of winners didnt have a trio
9 (3) - someone with a pair won it. 62% of winners didnt have a trio
11 (3) - someone with a pair won it. 55% of winners didnt have a trio
14 (3) - someone with a pair won it. 66% of winners didnt have a trio
18 (3) - someone with 5 from Chelsea won it. 73% of winners didnt have a trio

So I guess some of this is then going to boil down to which teams kept a clean sheet.
i.e. 3 winners we're based on Chelsea blocks.

Did Chelsea keep a clean sheet on weeks when none of the other big/main teams keep a clean?
Is it that the Chelsea defence is so much dearer for a block than everyone else… so not as many blocks you're competing against?

I dont know the answers, just thinking aloud.

Best tactic would seem 3 from one team 2 from another and then pick a weekend defender from whichever of the two teams has the best fixture.

FS Record: 2x Weekly Mini League Winner 2010-2011, 1 x WDT top 100 2011-2012.
Its not really a surprise that block defences aren't winning particularly often. What percentage of teams entered into the game have block defences?

The percentage will be miniscule.

By Block defence I mean: eg. Hart, Richards, Lescott, Kompany, Clichy. 3 or 4 defenders/keepers in one team is not a block defence.

So 4 wins in 18 is pretty good going.
