... forgive me, this game is new to me. I've read some really good posts so thanks for these. I have two basic questions that remain for me however.

1. Which is more important, picking a good initial squad or managing this every week? If the latter, how much time do people spend on this a week?

2. Do the player valuation changes really make any meaningful difference? It seems such a small change that it hardly seems worrying about? OK, clearly I've misunderstood something here, right? Do people leave some spare cash to allow for this or does everyone go for 100m on the dot?

Thanks in advance! Told you I was new to this game!

1. Picking a good initial squad is always important. Managing your initial squad into a good squad is more important in this game.

2. Yes. The first season I played this I finished with almost 113 mil and I could afford all the big guns att. Oh what being 0.1 short does to a man (or woman.)

Hi whitbyview.

First off, does that mean you can see Whitby from where you are? Lucky you if that is the case. Just had some Whitby scampi at the local pub!

You can of course change your squad throughout the season. Either gradually using your free transfer each week, or by spending loads of points on loads of transfers, or the one hit wonder that is the Wildcard. However, best just get the well balanced squad so only minor changes are required.

Secondly, when you are sitting there Friday night looking to see what changes you want to make, and decide to leave it until Saturday morning, that .2m of a price swing caused by the player you were going to swap out dropping .1m overnight, and the player you were going to bring in rising .1m overnight may as well be real money judging by the anguish it can cause!

It's more an aspiration than a reality ... think of it as being a virtual view! This 0.1m a week bit is still puzzling me but I guess once the season is underway I'll see it for what it is. I think for now I might keep 0.5m to one side to ensure I can do what I want to start at least. What is to stop you just doing the transfer Friday night - you're the second person I've read this from so maybe I've not understood this either? This is a steep learning curve so any thoughts gladly received! :D

Hi Whitby...

It was my first full season last year and the price changes confused me a bit to start with. One thing I would say is that player rises and falls are not necessarily confined to just 0.1m in a week. It could be 0.2, 0.3 or more depending on the popularity on that player. So it is best to keep an eagle eye on the way things are going. Early on this could be a daily requirement if you want to maximise your squad value.

Oh no, I thought I understood this and clearly I don't! I thought it was a maximum of 0.1 per game period thingy? I'll go back and read the rules again as I can't see based on what I read how they'd go up 0.3, even if there were two game periods. Thanks for the help anyway. Much appreciated.

Thanks very much for the offer. I don't think I can do this however because the reason I am doing a team is because of a work's league. Can you enter more than one mini league with the same team or is that forbidden? Thanks again for the great input folks - I need all the help I can get! :D

That's good then. When you are in one of these mini-leagues, what information can you see about the other players? Can you see anything other than their login ID and overall score? Just curious to know if I'll be able to see my work colleagues real names (as opposed to their login ID) and team line-ups? Thanks in advance. :D

You'll see their real name if they post in the mini league forum and use their real name in their profile!

You'll also see thier full team for the active gamesweek. In the run up to a new gamesweek starting, you won't find out what transfers (or initial selection) your opponents have made until the gamesweek starts (so you won't be able to copy them) but you will see how many transfers they have made before the new gamesweek starts. :)

You'll be able to see each teams 'team' page with the corresponding information that you see on your 'team' page. You don't get to see their current team, but the previous GWs.
No one's login name is revealed, just the name as entered in their user profile, which is often their real name but could be anything they want.
You will be able to see overall score, GW score, GW history, transfer history (not the current GW), etc, etc.

One question - why do you want to see your work colleagues real names? If you want to find out, why not just ask them?

That's very helpful - thanks. The point about the names is that if all the logins are something abstract (as mine is!) I'll have no idea who's who - I suspect it'll be quite a big league ... this said, if it is that large, I probably won't know the people even if I did have the real name, so I don't know why I am bothering really! Thanks again! :D
