I have something on every night next week.

If you want a 'live' game if might be easier to arrange to play at brettspielwelt sometime.

The next play-by-email game is just waiting for fancy dan to join it.

Can anyone explain what a quarry is for? I can't find any reference in the PDF of the rules, but everyone else seems to get one

Each quarry makes a building cheaper by 1
You can only reduce the cost of the first column of buildings by 1,2nd by 2 etc

So having 2 quarries would reduce the first plumb by 1 and the second colmn by 2? No wonder my score is so low! Cheers!

Another question...

I have a Construction Hut with no colonists assigned to it, yet when it came to the Settler phase I was still allowed to select a Quarry. Are there any other buildings which don't need colonists to gain their advantage?

dID YOU CHOOSE THE ROLE OF SETTLER THAT TURN?
You can select a quarry if you have chosen the role, otherwise you need an occupied construction hut

I've got a good seat position playing before my rival for maximum oppotunities to mess him up. Also I am after the weakest player who should make more mistakes for me to capitalise on, in theory.

Nice starting tile draw. In the five player game you start with enough money to build a tabacco storage if you're the builder (which I will be as my first turn).

I won't be comenting too much on here until after things happen because Fred could be watching.

(I suspect that Fred and I will be picked on and neither of us will win!)

Great performance from bspitles in the hardest seat (both in terms of seat two in general and playing after me in particular). Much closer than it looked, genuinely was not sure I was going to win that one until it ran on a couple of rounds longer than it usually does.

I was curious about that, as I saw the colonists had run out :?

It's been a good start as I got my trade good traded before anyone else for a nice cash lead. I've got a problem though because I took an early trade good the player before me has taken the same trade good to nullify it. This negates the cash lead and puts everything even again because I am going to have to spend money and or turns to rectify the situation. (office or large market or coffee or two quarries are the obvious solutions)

A rare and noteworthy thing has just happened - I took the settler but not the quarry. Settler was a fairly east choice. Craftsman and trader were no use to me and the settler had a doubloon on it making the prospecter of no use so it was a straight chioce between mayor and setter. I was two colonist short of where I need to be so the mayor would not have been a bad choice but as the plantation draw was corn, indigo(3), sugar(2), I took settler corn. A corn or a quarry would have given me somewhere to put my colonist when the next player took the mayor. Taking the corn prevented any other player from taking a useful corn as well as giving me access to a plantation that is difficult to take, potentially paving the way to a factory purchase.

I've enjoyed this so much, I've just bought it for the iPad (helped by the price dropping to £2.99) :-)

Maybe now I can see a board and play some quick games against the AI, I'll be able to improve my tactics

Blimey, it's a bit different! And I think the AI defaults to "WHATEVER" level

Some very unusual stuff is going on in this game. I have taken the Settler role four times in the first eight rounds! To solve my trading issue I bought I coffee roaster and so I needed to Settler/Coffee. Producing all five goods with a factory means I don't mind not trading.

It looks to me like Casey will win but I'm still hopeful of second place. Nothing is clear yet.

Delighted to win this. Unusual game in terms of roles I took. Had Martry to thank at the end, though it was to his own advantage too to take the mayor as it improved his position, buut it allowed me to man my fortress to win by two points.

I just about managed to maintain my 29% share of the points but that really was very close indeed. My destiny was not entirely in my own hands in the last turn but fortuatly for me everyone else did what was best for them.

Playing on the iPad has definitely made me a worse player - I don't think the AI (even top level) ever looks at hindering the opponents.

Is this point share percentage in each game we've played? Have you won every game, then, Whatever - i thought there was one where someone managed to beat you?

Nope, he's got a 100% record in FISO games :-)

Ah well, at least I made him sweat a bit in that last one (if kiz had gone for Builder rather than Captain I think I might have just nicked it...)
