Any ideas on how to stop cats messing on lawns?

I have tried:

Manure soaked in lion poo.
Sonic Cat.
Statues of another cats.
Plastic water bottles.
Plus I have a bigger cat than the one making the mess.

Any other ideas?

Better still, chop it up very finely and scatter across your lawn - your neighbours will hate you for days but the cat's won't go near it for weeks.

Haven't we had this discussion before? Anyhow, the cat is marking his territory and it is claiming your garden as his. This may sound strange but you have to mark it yourself to claim it back. Next time it comes along, it will smell your markings and stay away. Go against the perimeter fence/wall or what ever your boundary is.

Checked the search function and can not see that anyone has discussed this before.

Teach your cat to be boss so he will chase the other ones away.

Was never going to find that. Plus the issue is with cat poo, not marking.

I have put down some netting for now, to stop them getting on the lawns.

Netting? What over the lawn? They may still twinkle toe their way through and mess on your nets. Maybe get a statue of a dog?

When I had an issue with cat poo... they were pooing in the areas where I was growing grass from seed and not the lawn... They like to dig a bit before 'going' and not on the grass.

Anyway... one of those sonic things combined with some stones thrown at them did the trick.

Edit: The 'Get Off My Lawn' stuff worked for a while (check the above link from The Woolster to the other thread.) but only on seeded areas and when it wasn't washed away by rain.


I'll try to find a link to the sonic device that I used and post back. And send you some rocks...

Cats hate water, so what about a sprinkler - if you could activate it remotely when you see one coming into your garden, that would probably do the trick. Might help with your lawn too.

Make friends with it, feed it so it's sees your place as a 2nd home, it'll visit when hungry and to say hello but will go elsewhere.

Has anyone had success with the plant scary cat ? Seen it in garden centres but womdered if it worked ?

The silver tube can be removed to lower the sensor nearer to the ground... once I did that, it worked a treat.
