Just listening to the 8'o Clock News on the Today programme on R4, James Naughtie the presenter, was lining up a list of things coming up and said,

"...after the news I shall interview Jeremy C.unt....Hh unt the C..ulture Secretary..."

Then he had to read the headlines, and cracked up, coughed, paused etc for about a good minute.

On finiishing, the main points were read by another chap, but he was giggling as well, though held it together well.

Unlikely they can make a big thing of this as the word's just not to be said but it was a classic couple of minutes...

He ws right about him too

Proper belly laugh and he really did give it emphasis. But how people can complain I don't know. Hunt. Culture. It was going to happen sooner or later! I keep waiting for something similar on Countryfile when they are in the Kent countryside. :?

No ones going to make that rookie mistake Jon. Especially not those who live in Keeuntryside.

Sometimes I do fall culprit to a slip of the tongue at a football match, the word referee comes out as as c*nt  :D

It was the talk of the office when I got in

Reminds me of that joke about the MP who gets voted back into Parliament after a few years away. Another MP says to his colleague: "He's a country member." To which his friend replies, "Yeah, I remember."

I'm fondly reminded of John Peel introducing Big Country on TOTP as "the band that put the "ree" into country". Legend has it that he wasn't invited onto the show again for at least another ten years, but I can't find confirmation of this from a cursory google trawl - yet.

Even funnier is that he desperately tries to stop
laughing whilst reading the news

As this is the BBC how long before the Daily Mail runs a campaign to have him sacked?

...play to the very end of Judio's version of the clip - they very definitely plug "mart the week" with andrew starr. And apparently he makes the very same mistake as naughtie, when discussing the very same mistake.

The Naughtie incident led to an exchange of letters in The Times about whether it was a spoonerism. Someone wrote in to recall the time politicians in the UK were celebrated for being shining wits.

Radio 4 are just as naughty quite regularly - at least they are on "i'm sorry i haven't a clue", but then you know what to expect if you listen to the show. Pertaining to the theme of this thread; in the game uxbridge english dictionary, the word "countryside" was defined as "the murder of piers morgan".
