"Liverpool will be without captain Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres for their Europa League play-off second leg against Trabzonspor in Turkey on Thursday.

Gerrard has a back problem while manager Roy Hodgson has decided not to risk Torres in a third successive game following his injury problems last season."

Dunno how reliable this is but good news for some as it may give them a genuine excuse to make a transfer.

The Independent (in passing) says that Gomes could be out for a month. If this is true Harry is an idiot for not subbing him when the injury first occured and Dawson didn't help either. You get the impression that some at Spurs think that as Gomes is a softie that he should go through pain. Cutting off their noses to spite their stupid faces IMO.

Ivanovic a doubt

Branislav Ivanovic could miss this weekend's fixture.

'Ivanovic has a problem, Bosingwa started to train with the squad this week and is doing well, and Bruma is still recovering,' Ancelotti said, referring to the Dutchman's hernia surgery last week. There is better news however with two others - 'Ramires is available to play and Sturridge is also available again,' the Italian confirmed.

Lampard to have hernia op:

Lampard limped off in the second half of Chelsea's 2-0 win against Stoke at Stamford Bridge and will undergo a hernia operation next week, keeping him out of action for around a fortnight.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said: "It is a very easy surgery but he has started to feel pain and he needs to have the operation. We have already spoken with the national team to explain the situation."

Also, John Terry is out of both England games having done a hamstring; may be a doubt for next Chelsea game, too early to tell yet.

Peter Crouch also doubtful for England with a rib problem; if it's broken he could be out for a few weeks

Bobby Zamora and David Stockdale look to have friendlyitis as well

... and Robert Green as well - two weeks out.

And Robin Van Persie limped off with an ankle problem (again) yesterday. Wenger reckons about two weeks out.

Unlikely to be "friendlyitis" (like the term though), as they are qualifiers for Euro's this time.

2 to 6 weeks for Ivanovic. Disconcertingly vague.

Exactly - the story is totally useless from a FF manager's point of view. Simply a case of Sky "filling space". Based on the story he could be back for the next game. The headline six weeks is hidden away in the write up as the worst case scenario. Basically they have concocted a story when all they know is that Ivanovic is currently unavailable for Serbia.

Agree on the worth of the story....but useful to have this in mind if planning transfers at the end of next week. One to keep an eye on for updates.

MacDonald said: "Stephen hurt his hamstring in the warm-up.
"We will get the scan done on Monday and take it from there.
"He felt a tightness and there was no point in trying to play because, if he ends up getting injured for six to eight weeks, we can't afford that."

no results of the scan yet...

Manchester City's Michael Johnson (no, not Adam Johnson) hopes to be back playing before December after a long absence with a cruciate

Possible fractured hand for Blackpool's Alex Baptiste; also Gary Taylor-Fletcher hoping to be fit for next EPL game

Arsenal's Samir Nasri may well be back next week plus much confusion over the return date of Niklas Bendtner.

A long-term injury from last weekend not mentioned is Sunderland's Fraizer Campbell who ruptured his cruciate ligaments and will be out for about six months. http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/safc- ... -27176374/?

Also Spurs' centre-back Michael Dawson was stretchered off tonight in England's match v Bulgaria with what could be a bad knee injury.

Dawson
out for 6 to 8 weeks http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8968538.stm

Aston Villa's James Collins has a very worrying sounding injury from Wales' defeat last night and presumably will be out for quite a while - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 953341.stm

Theo Walcott injured his right ankle in England's match v Switzerland last night and after x-rays it looks like he's out for 1-2 weeks:

Jermain Defoe also stretchered off with what looked like a less-serious ankle problem and having a scan in London today:
