So after a quiet season or two hurricane wise, things are bubbling up a bit in the Atlantic this month

There was a documentary on BBC2 last night about a Hurricane, it made me cry

They've been told to batten down the hatches in the Carolinas. Not Category 5 yet but close.

With gobal warming the hurricanes will get more frequent. Question is, will one ever make it as far North and New York ?

This one could well cause a bit of bother in New York, with potentially hurricane force gusts, or at least tropical storm force winds, without actually still being a hurricane. Currently sea temperatures don't allow them to venture too far north as hurricanes. There is a difference between hurricane force winds, and a hurricane. The UK experienced hurricane force winds in 1987, but we didn't actually have a hurricane, which has to have minimum sustained winds of around 75-95 mph

The UK seems to have a different interpretation of "strong" gusts anyway.
I get BBC south east here in Amsterdam and the weather will occasionally say there will be exceptional gusts of up to 30mph. I have to laugh as barely a day passes here without "gusts" like that! Gusts often get to 50-60mph in heavy summer showers.

Looks like an image of Hurricane Barton barreling down on Loftus Road, Jonathan. I suggest women and children in the Queen's Park area shutter the windows and lock the doors as storm clouds are gathering. Hurricane Barton is reported to have caused significant damage at Arsenal enroute.

Of course it should be pointed out it will no longer be a hurricane, but all the same.... :? That is the suggested track by 2am EDT Monday (about 8am our BST?)

There is a very deep low around Monday (close to one of the deepest lows in history) . Like 99% of deep lows it is expected to miss the UK and skirt around the tip of Scotland as it weakens. It then heads toward Scandinavia. The north west of Scotland could face a battering with basic winds of 50mph+.
London never gets bad weather.

It won't go anywhere near you. Most of the UK will be unaffected to any great extent.

When it comes to tracking these lows then GFS are normally pretty good.
