I have watched the 1948 Italian film Bicycle Thieves about 8 times and have teared up at the ending every time. When that little boy reaches out and takes his shattered and humiliated dad's hand it hits me right between the eyes.

Shane - when i was a small kid, i saw this oldie and was pretty uncontrollable at the end, apparantly....

Watership Down - Needs no explanation!

Project X - well, to be honest, anything sad and animal related may set me off!

Other notable ones: I was blubbing after about 20 mins into 'Up' and was fighting back the tears during most of 'I Am Sam'.

What a big softy!

Watched Awakenings when i was in Kuwait in 1991 with a load of Marines and Paras i was grouped with for a certain thingy  let me tell you not one of us had a dry eye, i have never watched it since and maybe it had something to do with where we were and what we were doing but i reckon i would shed a tear again  The performences from Robin Williams, Robert De Niro and the lady that does the voice for Lisa or Bart Simpson (cant remember her name) is awesome, i would recommend that film to anyone, i have got to watch it again now :) , Based on a true story as well.

Agree with Dingram on "The Champ".

Whilst not a film per se, Dick Hoyt was told his son (who had cerebal palsy) was a vegetable and should be committed. University research enabled the disabled Rick Hoyt to tell his father he wanted to run.

Team Hoyt began in 1977 when Rick became inspired by an article on racing he saw in a magazine. Dick Hoyt was not a runner and was nearly 37 years old. After their first race Rick said, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicapped.” After their initial five mile run, Dick began running every day with a bag of cement in the wheelchair because Rick was at school and studying, unable to train with him. As of February 2008, the Hoyts had competed in 958 endurance events, including 65 marathons and six Ironman triathlons, They had run the Boston Marathon 25 times.

They also compete in triathlons in which Dick pushes Rick for the foot race, then with Rick sitting in a boat for the swim portion, Dick pulls him with a rope attached to his body. For the cycle portion of the triathlon, Rick rides on the front of a specially designed tandem bike.

I struggle to watch without the tears of pride and inpiration coming.

Silent Running always does it for me. I only have to hear the theme now and I'm all over the place.

There is a very moving scene in Chaplin's "The Kid" when the authorities try and take little Jackie Coogan away. No sound, just pictures.

Agree with the above about The Champ, It's a Wonderful Life & Watership Down.

For a slightly different reason, I found the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan pretty harrowing, knowing what our Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers had to endure, even if it was from an American perspective.

Yep, definitley one of the most powerful scenes in any movie. Really puts you in their shoes, I would have been absolutely terrified.

Every other film gets me weeping or laughing in the "wrong" places.

"Up" was probably the last one that did it for me (watched over the Internet), as it's such a sweet story and something (the life of an explorer) half of real men can relate to!

The little boy scout was a star!

8-)

Actually, I tell a lie, it was probably that Harrison Ford film about the guy who had 2 kids with a horrible disease and who went on to set up a $100M pharmaceutical operation to find a drug (an enzyme???) to combat it.

watched on the way back from holiday last year.
I had no idea what it was about, just assumed it was going to be a cheesy rom-com. She wanted to watch it, so i did.
Very very sad.
I guess none dog lovers will not get it though.
