I don't think he's ever been mentioned on here - which may be for a good reason.

But I did see an interview with him the other day promoting a new tour... Which reminded me that back in the early 80s when I was discovering electronic music, I thought he was great and ended up buying a few of his albums.

So... anyone else into a bit of the Frenchie's music?

Yep, I used to listen to a fair bit when younger. Remembered my bro videoing his Docklands concert which was quite amazing to watch, particularly as they carried it off in the pissing rain.

I had a tape with parts of his concerts in Houston & Lyon from one year. The Houston one always made me laugh as the "songs" were interspersed with radio commentary covering the spectacle. In one interlude the radio girl starts waffling about the freeway being jammed due to concert traffic - all of a sudden you can hear someone yelling "shut up!" and then the music kicks off into an upbeat track.

You maybe have to hear it for yourself

Saw him live on the Champs Elysee on Bastille Day in 1990 (just happened to be passing - you know how it is...).

Interesting spectacle but (Oxygene aside?) his music is a tad dull.

Went searching for my clip....reminded myself of some of the Rendez-Vous tracks, which certainly aren't dull (in my book).

Edit - whatever your thoughts on the music, this is utterly spectacular:

I love him.He made me to love electronic music along with Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dreams and made me to study Music Technology:).I've seen him in London Docklands long time a go, that was genius for that time.Shame he used illegal sounds sometimes (The sounds nicked from people without their permission) and found himself in the court but still I like him.

That Rendez-vous Album was one that I bought... If I remember rightly, the last track had a sax solo on it that was going to be recorded live from the Space Shuttle.

Because it blew up on take off clearly that never happened and he re-named the last song... 'Ron's Piece' after the astronaut that would have performed the solo.

Originally it was just going to be titled 'Last Rendez vous'

In hindsight... that Houston concert set him off on the big light show concert thing. He had done one or two before that (I think) and didn't want to perform in Houston after what had happened but he was persuaded to make it a bit of a tribute thing. About a million and a half turned up.

This is the album that really grabbed my attention at the time... Zoolook - 1985 Hopefully he will play a bit of this album Jack72 when you go and see him play.

I already had a few of his earlier albums at this point but this really blew me away at the time... ( Remember this C.Sativa? )

Back then (during the war  ) it was miles ahead of anyone that was recording this sort of stuff and 10 years later he was influencing the dance scene that flourished out of 80s electro... Lots of copying going on basically.

Top stuff!!!
