Friday 3rd September - Thursday 9th September (Sky Movies Premiere)

Terminator Salvation

This unfortunately represents a bit of a missed opportunity, a Terminator flick depicting the war between man & machine following 'Judgement Day' should have been something rather special (especially considering the money they had available to make this) but the end result is rather...underwhelming :? .

It's a decent enough action flavoured sci-fi movie but no more than that & IMO it's certainly the weakest of the four installments :( .

You're not kidding, I haven't seen it yet but I almost don't want to as it will mean I'd have to face the fact that this isn't the film I imagined after watching the glimpse of the future in the original (or that I played on the Gameboy! :P).

If you're a Terminator fan (and it sounds like you are  ) then you pretty much have to see this movie at some point but it's for the best if you keep your expectations pretty damn low.

Personally I expected this flick to replicate the feel of the post 'Judgement Day' scenes from the first three movies and to end with Kyle Reese being sent back in time to save Sarah Connor. Unfortunately, the 'money men' seem intent on squeezing out every last nickle & dime that they can from this franchise so the story that we're given instead occurs somewhere in between 'Judgement Day' and the events that I was hoping to see.

Sam Worthington's character (created it seems for no other reason than to stretch things out) is pretty much a waste of time & it's frustrating that he, rather than John Connor, is the main focus of this movie. In addition to this, the actor playing Kyle Reese is completely wrong for the role & surprisingly young as well which probably indicates that they're intending to fit in a few more movies before he's actually old enough to travel back in time  .

It's not all bad though, there are some decent set pieces, the previously unseen Terminator models are for the most part well concieved & created (I particularly liked the Terminator Motorcycles 8-) ) and it was nice to see the prototype Terminators from the third movie make an appearance in this one as well (Moon Bloodgood is also very easy on the eye  ). However, best of all IMO is the digital recreation of the T-800 from the first Terminator movie, although it's not 100% realistic it was certainly enjoyable enough to have me thinking that it's appearance was all too brief :( ...

Just got myself a PVR so have been filling up the hard disk with loads of films. Thanks for the suggestions RB much appreciated :) I noticed this website the other day that is quite handy. It ranks all the films available on Freeview in the coming week according to their score at the Internet Movie Database:

That's a really great site...unfortunately it does also make my posts on this thread pretty much unnecessary from this point onwards  ...

Strongly disagree!!

A handy accompaniment to your toil it is indeed, but I for one, * look at your views everyday and often start sky +ing accordingly.

I second that emotion. Whilst that website chucks every single film at you it can't offer the sort of value-added experience you provide. ;)

Obviously, if you want to take this opportunity to bow out I don't think any of us could complain. It must be a real bind having to keep this thread updated...

At some point I will 'bow out' of this thread but I wasn't planning on doing that just yet...at least until I saw what that website had to offer  .

The only thing that it doesn't give you is my (well respected  ) views of the movies that are on offer via freeview (& Sky Premiere) but I have to admit that I've been weighing up whether or not that alone is worth the time it takes me to build each day's listing.

However, a large percentage of the time that I spend on building this thread's listings is actually going through my Sky+ HD box's EPG & checking each of the relevant channels for movies that are worth highlighting on here. So if I just use that website from now onwards that will in fact greatly speed up the process, which makes it a lot easier for me to continue posting on here (for the time being at least  )...

I'd certainly agree that 'Fantastic Four' is one of the weakest comic book adaptations out there but it's not completely without merit, Chris Evans is enjoyable as 'The Human Torch' & Jessica Alba is very...
