Seriously considering moving this Summer away from 'expensive' South Coast - currently paying almost a £1K a month for a decent sized 4 bed house in a nice area.

What I want to know is what is the average rental cost for a nice 3/4/5 bed property in your area of the Country & what are the prospects of getting a job (Catering industry based probably - though not a necessity)

not even checking the rental prices as you can probably buy the village for £1k a month!

The average rent around here on the beautiful Solway Coast is about £450 a month for a 2-3 bedroom House/Cottage. You will be surrounded by Golf Courses and have the peace and quiet of country life. There is no Industry in this area and there is not much else beside Hotel & Catering.

This place might suit you, it has it's own private 18 hole Golf Course and I have contacts. http://www.callypalace.co.uk/

You should consider Southport. Being a resort town it has plenty of catering opportunities, the economy isnt horrible up here. Its an hour away from Liverpool, Manchester and Preston and the job opportunities they provide. It has some of the best Golf in the country and a decent standard of living.

You could get some very nice 4 bedroom places for around £800 in very nice areas.

3 bedroom places from £575 - £700 and even the lower end of that is a nice area.

http://www.look4aproperty.com/property. ... &p=1098156 (for £575 in Ainsdale thats a cracker actualy!)

Thats just from one quick search from one agent. Good luck looking!

The 2nd property is in Knob Hall Lane.

What are you trying to say to AKNel1?

Such a big range of rental costs in this area of North Wales(Colwyn Bay)that I've just picked with a pin one 3 bed semi @ £595/month :
http://www.anthonyflint.co.uk/rent.P2322.htm

You can pay £1k for 4 bed properties in exclusive areas or less than £500 in less exclusive locations.

Clean air, magnificent countryside, beaches and above all several top class golf courses, with relatively low membership fees,e.g Conwy, and Maesdu.

As a seaside resort area, plenty of seasonal job openings advertised regularly, and top class hotels seeking year round staff.

Alternatively, maybe a lecturing position could be for you,(depending on your background) at Llandrillo College,Rhos-on-Sea, which houses a world renowned catering college from which hotel managers and chefs at many of the world's top hotels have graduated ?

Llandrillo College is accredited by the University of Wales for degree awards, and with several satellite colleges, has 25,000 students and 1000 staff, and has just won the prestigious Beacon Award of the British Council for International Student support: http://www.llandrillo.ac.uk/international/

I'll be happy to assist with any more info you might need. This is just a "taster" of what may prove to be a major life change !

Nope, I am half Welsh myself. My Mum is from Wrexham and a lot of my family now live on Anglesey

Thanks for all the info so far, much appreciated. Had 'the big chat' with Mrs AK & the kids last night and it seems everyone is very much pro moving - which is good.

Where we go is very dependant on what I can find workwise but at the moment we are targetting the Bristol area. One of the key selling points for Bristol is that they do cheap flights to Belfast - Mrs AK is Belfast born'n'bred and would very much appreciate the chance to pop back and forth for less than the cost of a bus ticket from Bognor to Portsmouth. At the moment if we want to do this it costs us more to travel to the Airport than it does to fly

Nice that you all picked up on the Golf  but I'm not overly concerned about that - I know that throughout the Country there are many, many very good Golf Courses for me to hack around

Next step is to start putting the feelers out for some work. The plan is to move around July/August so that the youngest (14) is ready for School in the September. Have to admit I'm quite excited by the prospect, whilst also being filled with dread (new job/new house/moving/new people etc.)

Anyway, I haven't ruled out anywhere at this stage & may get back to some of you at a later stage for further info.

Cheers all

Liverpool  Belfast is simple. The airport is about an hour from Southport.

I can beat that :D ..Travel by ferry to Belfast from Stranraer on the HSS Stena Voyager fastcraft with a ferry crossing time from just 119 minutes (and you can take your car) :D

To be fair, we could easily fly from Southampton - but the cost per ticket would be an extra £100+ per person (for 5 of you it soon adds up). For 5 of us to fly out of Bristol often costs less than £50  so its a big difference

Liverpool's only an hour from here too,but why fly when your missus could swim over from here ? :D

In fact, better still, you could invite all her family over for the weekend - but best wait until the water's a bit warmer !

Talking of accents,as we were, you're a lucky lad to have that delightful Belfast accent whispered in your ear to sooth your brow should you get stressed over the move - I once had a girlfriend from Belfast whom I nearly married for her accent

Seriously,it's great to have your family so supportive of the move, which will no doubt be a great adventure for them, full of promise and pleasant surprises I'm sure.

I can't help thinking Bristol's a touch expensive though,if you're seeking to slash your outgoings, albeit I suppose there are other districts than Clifton where you could happily live, though everyone I know who's lived down there has opted for Clifton.
