I've had a genius little idea when trying to analyse options of who I will be transferring into my teams... A way to view the stats for a shortlist of players!

If you're a site member, go to http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp, fill in the little box with the player codes you want to compare and click 'view shortlist'. You can then sort the shortlist by most of the columns to help you decide on your transfers.

EXAMPLES
If you were looking at the top midfielders, it'll generate a URL like this:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp?shortlist=508,564,691,501,562,622,773

If you were looking at cheap defenders, it'll generate a URL like this:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp?shortlist=401,109,410,434,366,450,312,420

I've not tested it thoroughly as I knocked it up in 15 minutes, but it seems to work well!

Jules, as you have all the match results, how about some analysis/charts around clean sheets?

Total:
Home Cleans
Away Cleans
Home & Away Cleans

Last 6 games:
Home Cleans
Away Cleans
Home & Away Cleans

Matches Since a clean
Most cleans in a row this season

Differentiate between league and cup competitions (group fa cup/carling/europa/champs all together)

What you think? Has it got legs?

It's got legs, although I'm not sure how helpful some of those stats will be. I'd planned to do a lot with the Club Stats page and this sort of thing would have gone on that page, but I didn't have time to finish it.

I can't tell you when I'll have time to develop it. I've really only had a smidgen of time to work on the site over the past few months and when I do get some free time, often the last thing I want to do is sit infront of a computer screen! It'll definitely go on my jobs list for the site though. I think I'll have more inclination to make time for it at the end of the season, when all the reports will help with player analysis for next season.

Hi Jules, I think you are missing Malouda's star man from Saturday against west ham, Sun have him on 21 for the match you have 16

Jules, quick question for you - are you planning to keep archives of these stats available e.g. next year will we be able to see 09/10 stats in the same detail as we can at the moment. Or should I do a scrape of the info I want at the end of the season myself. :)

I suppose it's down to db size and costs...

I'll be able to put some of the data into my usual historical spreadsheets.

Although if capacity/money allows, I'd love to see the historical stuff on-line, even after the start of next season.

(another reason to add the "donate" button Jules if costs need covering!)

I'll have an archive section, probably containing exactly the same as what is there currently. I really haven't had time to work on the site but I'll have to spend some time on it ready for the start of next season so that should give me the push to get some more features added too, some of which may be able to be applied to the stats from the 09/10 season.

Things I think will be useful to add for next season (and last seasons stats if possible):

- A points breakdown page. Similar to the Points (Detail) page, this will show totals of points gained from defensive performance, ratings, goals, etc... so you can see where each player has gained their points.

- A match detail page. One for each match that shows which DreamTeam players played in the match, what points they gained and how they rated. This would be useful when trying to find discrepancies in the Sun's scoring compared to mine.

- A player detail page. This would provide all of the stats/reports I can generate about a player all on one page so that you don't have to keep effing between reports.

- A points pending page. It will show the current points, how many points they have gained/lost from the games that the stats have been entered for and their new totals. This page will only be useful when there are games for which the stats have been entered but the ratings are yet to be entered, though it will make Saturday evenings and Sundays easier to calculate how well your team has done.

- The My Team page. This won't be as I'd quite intended (calculating your team total including transfers - just as the DT website does it) but it will be designed to help you compare the current players in your team with players on your shortlist who you are considering bringing in at a transfer window. There's already this type of feature on the Points (Detail) page, so it will be an enhancement on that.

- I want to add a new column for Actual Position to distinguish between fullbacks and centrebacks, defensive midfielders, wingers and attacking midfielders, etc... This would be entered manually by me so may not be perfect, and obviously some players can play in multiple positions, but it would be useful to see where they play most often and also to compare the performance of Fullbacks vs Centrebacks as well.

- A donate button, so that you guys can help me afford to keep the site running :-)

- A couple more administrative helpers. I have been doing the bulk of the work but have had help along the way from Zimmerman mostly, though others have helped out too. If you want to help out in any way then please send me a PM.

Realistically I can't create a system to run a private mini-league online. As much as I want to, it's just not feasible at the moment and Andy's spreadsheet does a much better job anyway.

If you guys can think of any more things that would be good to include on the site then now is the time to tell me!

Jules

Your site as been invaluable to me this year, as used to use the paper on Saturday to do the scores for our mini league, but that has become a joke. So all my weekly updates are taken from your site.

Thanks for all the hard work on the site its great.

Cheers

Ian

Once again, thanks for the great site. It's been my one-stop shop for stats for the Sun game.

This is probably a dumb question but here goes anyway... at the start of next season, will you include a column that rates the players PPM value based on last season's points but the new season's value? You may well have had this at the start of this season - I don't think I looked however. :)

If Jules doesn't do it, i always put that stuff in my spreadsheet based stats (both PPM and PPM^0.4 etc).

The scores in the weekly column aren't updating from week 35 onwards, is it something I am doing wrong.

Has anyone else got a list of players weekly scores from Monday to Sunday if not please as the Sun is now useless for doing my weekly points update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Melvin

You can do a custom points query (bottom option in the second menu (from my memory... So don't quote me)).
Then you can specify the dates for when you want the points for (week by week).

Hi Melvin,

It was a typo in the SQL that filters out the scores for each week. It should be fixed now.

Jules had added a "Donate" button to the site.

So if you've found his site useful this season and it has helped win a works league or whatever, you might want to consider a small donation towards the upkeep of the site and to pay for next seasons hosting costs etc.

(he's too modest to ask you to do this himself!)

Ok, I've not spent much time on it yet but I've reconfigured the site ready for the World Cup. I've still got a couple of things to finish, but the player points part of it is all set up ready for the first match.

I'll be working on adding new features throughout the World Cup, so make sure you check back every so often to see what useful information has appeared.

If you're wondering about the Premier League player stats, I've not got rid of them, I just haven't had time to change the website enough to put last season's data on there. Rest assured though, it will return at some point, certainly in time for the forthcoming league season.

I've added a donate button to the homepage, as I realised the donate button was only visible to those who were logged in to their user account!

I've also adjusted the 'Points per Phase' report so that it shows the Phase 4 total as well as the breakdown of which knockout round the points were scored.

I will be preparing the site for the Premier League season over the next couple of weeks, so as soon as it is ready you will be able to access last season's statistics. Hopefully it will be finished to coincide with the launch of the DreamTeam Premier League game.

I still have plenty of plans for adding new features, but I simply haven't had the time to implement them yet.

You need to readdress your priorities my friend.
Never mind selfishly entering teams and trying to win money for yourself, you should be prepping things ready to hand information to us lot on a plate.

You should be going on the dream team visit and asking for a job.
I bet they would pay you a 6 figure salary no problem. Just think of allthose fewer complaint phone calls to man all day with gross mistakes.. You'll cut that all out.

Again, not had enough time to work on the site, but I have uploaded last seasons version of the website to here:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/0910/

It's a bit of a bodge, but it'll have to do for now!

To make it easier for those who like to work with printouts, I've also made an Excel version of the main reports:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/files/DreamTeam_2009-10_Statistics.xls

There's a lot to do to get the site ready for the new season, so if anyone fancies a job, I'm sure I could find some tasks that need doing, such as formatting the premier league fixtures list into the columns I need (I'll supply an Excel file for you to edit for me). Send me a PM if you want to help.
