Simple question, can anyone personally recommend a portable air conditioner available in the UK?

I know I started a thread on this last year, but I never got round to buying one as I couldn't find a recommended one in this country ( ) but am planning to get one in the next few weeks come hell or high water.

I have a 5th floor flat, so cannot have a 'split' air con system, and normal fans just succeed in blowing hot air around and actually making the whole room even hotter, so a portable air con window a 'window foam kit' exhaust system is the only real option.

I am looking for probably two units, one for living room and one for main bedroom, probably only need about 9000 BTUs each at the most (but would be happy to pay more if there is any benefit in doing so). Not too concerned about the price, but I expect to spend in total somewhere between £400 and £800 I guess.

Anyone got any good or bad experiences with any particular company or model? The only units that have good reviews from everyone are Sharp, apparently only available in the USA. DeLonghi here review particularly poorly, and lots of others are very hit and miss... :?

Hi Jim

Not sure if this will help but the aircon unit in my flat is made by Marstair... :? Well... that's what it says on the front.

Anyway... top piece of kit when it's real hot. The air intake is in my cellar but being 5 floors up I presume you can put this outside one of your windows...? It can go on any external wall basically. Looks ugly from the outside but who cares!!!

This is probably completely unhelpful to you so I apologise in advance...

BTW... If you need recommendations on jacuzzis, (as robbielee would say)... I'm your man 8-) :D

Thanks Dixie but unfortunately I'm not allowed to put a unit outside (same in most flats I believe) therefore I can only have one of the genuinely portable units.

Reading reviews online, there is one unit that everyone recommends but, typically, it is only available in the USA (a Sharp model), and I don't want to import it as returning it would be a nightmare if it went wrong. Most popular models in the UK seem to be Amcor, lots of fairly good reviews, so will probably go for one of them.

Split system air con? Jacuzzi? Alright for some isn't it?

PS Why would Robbielee say that? Has he been in your jacuzzi?

The previous owner was a confirmed batchelor who is now my landlord living upstairs... When it was reallly reallllllly hot last summer I made some on here very jealous with my 'facilities'. I was just lucky to inherit them (mmmmmm jacuzzis!!!... mmmmmmmm aircon!!!)

BTW. Robbie knows the score... check out the text under his avatar... he thinks he knows it all!!!
