As
nemo is in the same 'works league' as me I can echo his pont about our league winner's team value being no relation to his score .... but that isn't to say that the exercise is futile - in fact, it begs the question of 'how much better would
Zero Zero have done with an extra 1.5m+ spending power in the bank!
After all, it's not as though ZZ was deliberately underspending, is it? He spent what he had wisely, that's all - and all credit to him. But the inference nemo gives is that, had he had more money he would have stuck with the same team and done as well, regardless.
I don't buy it.
Had ZZ had more money, I suggest, his acumen at the game would have seen him buying any and all the 'more productive' players that he could afford - and doing better still!

I still believe that the 'superior team value' notion is a fallacy. To make any use of that 'cash' you need to sell your players who have risen the most to 'liberate' the cash - fine if you think they've over performed, but if not, it's a nonsense - and also your team value will drop significantly (if that matters?!)
On the one hand, I have to agree - Team Value is of little consequence - buying power (value after 50% levy remoned) is what really matters. But, on the other hand, 'Sh1t happens!'. Players do fall in and out of form or favour, get injured, stub cigars out on each other - at some time in the season you will want to sell almost every player in your squad (well, I will!

) - so all the better if they've made a profit for you, surely?
No one here is suggesting that, at the end of GW5 (in this instance), one should sell players you are wanting to keep, just because they've risen by 0.2. That would be nuts. You sell when the points dry up, obviously.
What is being suggested is using our knowledge of the game, our (hoped for) prescience of price changes and the bullish market, boosted by enthusiatic newbies, to make that 0.5 million that everyone of us are wishing we had right now - and to get it early enough in the season to give our teams a meaningful financial boost.
Also, whilst avoiding false prophets (see Zamora last season

), by GW5 certain runs of form not apparent now will be established. Which of us wouldn't like to know the regular line up of every team right now? Every CRD in every team? Or how good Pompey's defence are this year, or if it'll take EV half a dozen games to tighten at the back again this year. GW5 presents an ideal widow to hone our squads based on real competion, not friendlies.
The Internationals provide two oportunities at least: 1) to advertise the skills of those playing in the EPL - a couple of goals by, say, Downing, will translate into a 0.2 rise over the 2nd week. Good example, really, as unless he's started exceptionally well, I probably wouldn't want to hang on to him into GW6 but would take the money and run ....
and 2) the opportunity for anyone playing to get badly injured. If you jumped on an early bandwagon and used you 'free', then you find an injury or two hitting you ..... you may wish you played your Wildcard last Saturday. I'm sure a few felt that way last season and jumped in late.
Part of the skill in playing a GW5 W/c will be in deciding the squad you want to walk away with at the very start of the week and buying into it as the two weeks progress. This way you'll be making 'theorectical' money on the ones you want to keep while maximising gain from those you don't. Again, if the CtC thread is fully functioning I would hope to make 0.5 sheer profit in GW5, whilst seeing further increase in the Team Value from the 'stalwarts'.

As Jenninho proved, team value, is no reflection on overall ranking.
Offside, Ref!
Jenninho was intent on winning the Team Value League, which she did. Points to her were nowt more than trading currancy for more transfers.
In her case, Team Value = 1st place!
Anyway, that's how I see it .....
