Unless you have Aiken, I assume it'll be all 6 in The Players this week for your OFL team?

I've reversed two waves of potential transfers already and I'm still not settled :P

This year, to avoid "THAT" nauseous feeling - I'm betting on my benched players...... :D

But are they any good???

I tend to bet on other people's players, to soften the blow when they do well.

Trick is to have really poor players on the bench

I'm not sure whether to stick with Kim he must come good again soon, but it is bound to be the week I drop him :x

I have been burnt with Kim (and Harrington) too many times recently and I am refusing to select either of them for the rest of the season on principle.

Kim doesn't have very good form at Sawgrass, so now may be the time.

The Players seems to be an event which, while wishing it could be the 5th Major, attracts winners far from Major-contender quality.

Like Henrik Stenson

So I'm betting on duffers and Euro 9th rate cheese this week in my teams.

In the majority of events on both Tours the number of entrants are divisible by 3, with each of the groups logically going off in 3-balls.

When I read that there were 145 participants at the Players I assumed that the odd number was down to certain qualifying criteria, like in the Masters, but then last night when Jeff Maggert withdrew, the first alternate was put into the field.

The first two groups going off the first tee this afternoon are going to be in 2-balls and the rest in the usual threes.

Why don't they just add a couple more alternates to the field and then everybody would be playing in the usual 3 balls?

. . . . . But anyone who retained Aiken will wish they had included someone from the Players as he is currently +1 through 14 (unless the fabeled European Tour "Scoring" system has struck again and he could actually be -6 through 14

Woods 4 over after 4 holes

Just taken a "good" 7 on the par 4 4th, courtesy of an 18 foot putt!

Am I the only one who thinks its rather embarassing that the world number 1 has chosen not to play in what's regarded as the biggest tournament outside of the 4 majors?

It seems world ranking points have become more important to Lee Westwood & so he was off competing in the Indonesian Masters on the Asian tour the other week where the field was weak.

Others may not take that view but he should be playing here as should McIlroy & Jimenez & they've gone down in my estimation by not turning up.

Harsh on Jimenez-he's a major supporter of The European Tour.He went to China, played in Spain last week and will play in Spain next week. He's not getting any younger!
The other two are not chasing World Ranking Points-they are chasing the shed loads of appearance money that Chandler gets a cut of.IMO of course.

There's more to this than meets the eye.

Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer are among several top Europeans who didn't take the USPGA tour card. They're therefore restricted to just ten events across the pond.

Westwood said it wouldn’t make travel sense for him to go to The Players Championship without being able to play the week before in Quail Hollow because of the limitation on the PGA Tour.

It's been suggested that all tours should abandon policies that restrict how often players can compete if they are among the top ten (or 50 even) in the world.

I agreed with your observations regarding Westwood and McIlroy but I can forgive Jimenez given the Seve Ballesteros situation.

Yes as Jimenez played last week & following the death of Seve I'll let him off.

I'm fully aware that neither Westwood or McIlroy have taken the USPGA tour card, neither has Kaymer but he's still there. It's a massive tournament & both players should be playing.

Regarding Westwood & the ranking points I've delved a little deeper into how he's no1.

    1 Lee Westwood, Eng 8.08 387.61 48 -129.42 92.08
    2 Martin Kaymer, Deu 7.42 363.67 49 -110.93 118.80
    3 Luke Donald, Eng 7.33 381.21 52 -87.28 157.92
    4 Phil Mickelson, USA 6.60 290.25 44 -110.98 113.06
    5 Graeme McDowell, Nir 5.66 311.10 55 -82.55 60.16
    6 Rory McIlroy, Nir 5.44 288.41 53 -97.57 78.20
    7 Paul Casey, Eng 5.39 237.21 44 -90.88 62.77
    8 Tiger Woods, USA 5.37 214.63 40 -143.42 42.80
    9 Steve Stricker, USA 5.34 218.86 41 -105.56 61.62
    10 Matt Kuchar, USA 5.26 268.29 51 -72.92 94.14
    11 Bubba Watson, USA 5.21 239.82 46 -49.10 131.67
    12 Charl Schwartzel, Zaf 5.02 281.17 56 -56.63 156.21
    13 Dustin Johnson, USA 5.00 245.04 49 -69.57 88.53
    14 Jim Furyk, USA 4.75 223.02 47 -100.77 37.76
    15 Nick Watney, USA 4.56 227.85 50 -58.40 120.56

Westwood is no1 due to his wins in the Ballantines, Indonesian Masters & Nedbank challenge. However, he's the only player in the current top 15 to play in either of those tournaments. That's right, not one of other 14 played in ANY of those that Westwood won. I think it's a bit of a joke really.

Embarassing to who? :?

Westwood will be at the BMW. Its up to him. He isn't chasing the world number 1 spot at all. If he was he'd play every week. He doesn't.
