Bit of an odd request...

My nephew has been a bit stupid and is spending a few months in prison (nothing to do with rioting). It's been decided that he's not a danger to the public and has been placed in an open prison. To try and help pass the time, I thought it might be an idea to start one or more play by mail games with him (he is allowed unlimited post, but no email).

Does anyone have any experience of these games? My nephew is interested in football and motor racing, but would probably take part in anything!

Try Raceplan (F1 style) & Gameplan (American Football) - Ab Initio games http://www.pbmsports.com/raceplan.htm

Cheers Adrian.

I looked at these last night, but was a bit off by the price. There are some free play-by-email ones which I might sign up for, and then print the email to send by post. (That way I can include an SAE which means he won't be paying for stamps out of his allowance!)

I think F1 is a great idea for this kind of game, lots of options and races traditionally have a big gap between them.

Probably not very suitable, but ages ago I used to play a game called It's A Crime by mail, in which you build a small street gang up to a big Mafia-style mob - glad to see it's still going: http://www.kjcgames.com/crime/index.php

Like I say, probably not quite what your nephew needs right now though...

20 years ago I used to play Soccer Star via Play By Mail.

Looks like it's only online now but as you've already said, maybe you can do the printing and mail it to him.

Any 2 player abstract stratergy game would work well. Chess, drafts etc. With a bit of thought even a lightweight Eurogame like Carcassonne would work.
