Patrick Stewart makes a tit of himself having a dig at 'Smithy'
Corden looks like he wants to deck him.

Don't like corden, bit of a tusser, not funny and on everywhere on tv for some reason. Glad someone with a bit of class told him how it is.

On the twitter homepage, one of the so-called "top tweets" runs along the lines of "don't get the hump at being the butt of a fat gag when you built your career making them at yourself".

Is that true? (very generally, of course). Never watched Corden so can't tell.

Very. Especially in his dire live comedy stand-up show.

I did think that Stewart looked either drunk or ill though and what he thought were cunning, witty jokes weren't by the sounds of the audience.

I think Sir Patrick underestimated Corden's popularity in the room, and his 'jokes' went a bit flat. I thought at first it may have been stage managed until I saw the look on Cordens face.
He has made fun of himself in the past over his corpulent stomach, but if he is actually a wee bit touchy about his weight he should try eating more salads.

Yeah, I think he picked the wrong venue/crowd to take the mick out of Corden but didn't seem to know when to stop.

I too thought it was staged initially but I don't think Corden's that good an actor!

yeah, James Corden can't start getting offended at the fat jokes when he cracks them himself, but i think in this case it was just the way Patrick Stewart came across.

before he even cracked the fat joke he'd gotten off to a bad start with the way he told Corden not to stand at the back with his hands in his pockets. it seemed more of a dig than a joke, and so from that point onwards they were off on the wrong foot.

seemed to me like Patrick Stewart was the one who made a bigger arse of himself.

I would say more that, given Corden makes fun of his own size, for someone else to make jokes about it is a fairly pointless exercise. A fairly unedifying encounter all round, but I think Patrick Stewart came out of it worse - as MM says, he seemed to have it in for Corden right from the start. Corden can be pretty irritating, but I think he handled this pretty well.

Was that an intended pun at the end there? Bit harsh, he may be a bit touchy about exercise and his weight. ;)

Cordens show after the football on itv is an absolute let down, the guy can be funny like the England team talk in 2008 for comic relief or Gavin and Stacey at times but the footy show is god damn awful! Bring back baddel and Skinner!
It seems to me Corden needs time to write comedy and a script, his live off the cuff comedy is poor but the programme producers and writers are also to blame, such a waste of a prime time slot for abit of post match fun

He is a fat wannabee idiot (not camp though???) most of the time but writing G&S proved he has some genius in him somewhere. He also acted the character well in the early series before overplaying it and becoming annoying by the end. His England squad and Sports Personality skits were also brilliant if you allowed him his self indulgence.

As Groucho said about Harpo, "He's a genius. A stupid genius but still a genius." ;)

Not overly, only in the way lots of men his age seem to do "nowadays".

Does anyone watch A League of Their Own?

He goes from average to poor on that, with the very rare spike of quite funny.
Such a let down really, with the support cast he has it should be a must watch.

The fact he thinks he's 'A-List' and a good pal to everyone who's anyone, gets right on my nerves.
I think he should keep out of the limelight and concentrate on what he seems to be good at, writing. He would do well to emulate Richard Curtis rather than try to be more like Ben Elton!

He can try and be like Elton but he'll never be as funny. I've seen several stand ups live over the years and he had me laughing the most. Plus you rarely see Ben Elton on anything these days. Curtis has also produced some sentimental tosh (although not as bad as doing a Queen musical!)

I started watching it with high hopes, it had a 'honey' with Georgie Thompson, but she appears to have absolutely no character. The previously unknown outside of Liverpool resident scouse comic turned out to be not that funny and Jamie Redknapp is a airhead. No real surprise then it turned out to be car crash tv.

John Bishop is very funny - just not on this show..... :?
Freddie's thick.
Jamie has a fit wife.
Georgie knows her sport and looks OK.
Much depends on the guests, but to date there haven't been many memorable ones. Even Jimmy Carr seemed not to know what the point was, and he's normally good value 'wind him up and let him go'; Bob Mortimer and Tom Daly should have been a good show, but wasn't.
I've now deleted it from my planner, so won't be seeing any more!

I saw John Bishop live 2-3 years back and it still counts as the funniest show I have ever seen. The guy is awesome doing stand up. James Corden... I keep thinking he should be funnier than he is, every time I see him.
