Shocking if true:

Quote:
An investigator working for the News of the World allegedly hacked into the mobile phone of murdered girl Milly Dowler, a lawyer for the family says.

Mark Lewis said police told her parents that Glenn Mulcaire hacked into her voicemail while she was missing.

The Guardian has claimed he intercepted messages left by relatives and said the NoW deleted some, which gave her parents false hope she was alive.

That paper should be shut down.

Murdoch is still backing Rebekkah Wade. Probably because if she goes then he is next in the firing line.....

Hope they all get sent down for a long time.

Not so sure, there will be even more pressure on the Tories approval of the takeover - especially as one of the Tory advisers was ex-NOTW (has resigned from both). Robotic Red Ed was sticking his oar in earlier so Cameron knows the risks.

Ex Cameron aide, he resigned over the Celeb tapping.

It is an almost interesting test of the power of the media. I would still have my money on Murdoch winning through, although Wade may be sacrificed - is she married to the Eastend Mitchells who goes off "investigating" gangs?

Wiki:

Wade became engaged to actor Ross Kemp (best known as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders) in 1996. They married in June 2002 in Las Vegas.[24] On 3 November 2005, it was reported that Wade had been arrested following an alleged assault on her husband. She was later released without charge and the police took no further action.[24] The S*n had been running a campaign against domestic violence at the time.[4] From this point on, Wade was then referred to in Private Eye as "the slapper" (a pejorative word for a woman of loose morals in Britain, and a pun on the act of slapping) .

(they've since divorced and she is now a 'Brooks')

Did she slap him, then? I would have thought she would throw something, or have a weapon

I still think Murdoch will get out of it, with his take-over going through. The Tory\Media set up is far too strong - don't they all live (weekend) in the same village, or something.

Why anyone would want to read NOTW is beyond me but how could anyone in good conscience ever buy that rag now. Or any other rag owned by Rupert Murdoch. I hope the police step up on this one and the lawsuits crush NOTW.

A boycott of Sky would have more affect on News Corp. (There is also the Contempt of Court charges against The Sun and Mirror...)

Parents of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman are being visited by Scotland Yard, so it could well be the tip of the iceberg.

What kind of lowlife hacks the phones of missing children just to make their parents think they are alive and to sell papers?

Murdoch must have had some knowledge of this.

Disgusting, don't buy their crap anyway but am half tempted to stand outside my newsagents with a placard. Will be boycotting everything to do with them including Sky.

Why didn't the Mirror lead with this story? They are arch enemies of the Sun, perfect opportunity to get some extra readers

The Sun probably threatened to grass up The Mirror over the Contempt of Court case, where they are both the Accused.

I've boycotted The S*n for 22 years but not the entire Murdoch empire. The English papers are no more connected to Sky than, say, the Wall Street Journal is. Just part of his empire not the specific News International bit.

I never buy the NOTW but that was just because it is crap, I'll officially be boycotting from now on though.

Sick behaviour that has had me trembling with rage all day. It does not matter who has knowledge its the culture that condones/breeds this as acceptable behaviour that is at the heart of it - kill the root and the rotton branches will die. Sick sick ba******ds. I've boycotted S*n for 22 years too and will be boycotting NOTW now too.

It gets worse with allegations that journalists paid policemen in cash for telephone numbers.
I'm with murf on this boycott the S*n and NOTW.

On a lighter note I may even threaten Sky that I am leaving if it means I get a discount - I can be shallow as well.

Now there're allegations that 7/7 victims / victim's families got their phones hacked.

Parliament really should act.

This sick media group really does the British Isles (and the world as a whole, I guess) a major disservice.

Would they be missed (at all) if they were just quietly shut down (for good)?

(Not going to happen of course, but I can dream...)

Lots of moral indignation here...afraid to say if the "Great" British public didn't buy this cr@p and devour this sensationalism then the papers wouldn't be doing it.

As Groomy would say "we get the papers we deserve"

It is alarming how little air time and column inches it is getting though.

Not sure about inches, but BBC News are running with it.

Apparently News Corp have had a document sweep and found the name of the person who sanctioned the Dowler tap. Sounds as dodgy as taking credit for winning the Grand National sweep to me.

The real issue is the possible\probable Institutionalisation of phone tapping within News Corp. I would expect Murdoch to get a mauling in the Commons this afternoon.

Thats my thinking… none of them really want to say too much, because they are happy for the flack to only be going in one direction for now.

I am now officially boycotting ALL Murdoch publications and networks (there are plenty in NA) and considering boycotting any advertisers that stick with NOTW. This is the sickest behavior by journalists I have ever encountered and after 30 years in the business I know that is a morally-challenged industry. I have seen some bad behaviour but this is really incredible.
Brooks should be forced out. I cannot believe she was unaware of what was going on in her newspaper and if she didn't know she deserves to be fired anyway. To think that pig Cameron had Coulson as his chief spokeswine and continued defending him until his resignation, that he chums up with Murdoch, a candidate for world's most repulsive human, is infuriating. This is the ultimate triple whammy with the media, the politicians and the coppers all looking like crap. Hats off to The Guardian for years of brilliant work, leading the charge on this story. Surely this answers any possible doubt for serious people that it is the best newspaper in the country.
