Panic!

Did we have the annual thread last year? Anyway, time already for this year's.

'Petrol retailers fear diesel prices will spike.'

'East of England MEP Richard Howitt also said he feared petrol supplies would be affected.'

"I don't want to be alarmist about this, but ..... supplies across London and the South East could be affected, and I have been told this could impact the Olympics."

"I can see a new record for diesel within days."

Good news. It only affects London & the South East. No need to panic at all.

Is anyone else finding it a pain to burn off enough petrol that your tank is empty so you can make it worthwhile and panic buy a whole tankful?

RIP pa

RIP pa

It is still hard to see threads to which pa has contributed. I thought this was a new thread, and then I saw pa's avatar. Will be strange this coming weekend in Wales not to have him there. :(

I must say, I can't help but think the gov. have been completely irresponsible over their handling of this. Why are politicians so poor at containing issue around fuel supply?

Panic bought some yesterday, although I'd be happy for the tank to run dry and not be able to make it to work

Halfords Northampton had sold out yesterday, apparently. I wasn't trying to buy one, but just something boss overhead. :?

I think they have showed new levels of inspired genius.

Their finances are a bit of a mess and so they have manufactured a way of generating increased levels of tax income just before the end of the financial year to give those figures a little boost. Genius.

PS Jerrycans contain 20 litres and are therefore above the legal limit for fuel storage at home

In the Midlands yes. Thankfully I can walk to work so have no reason to sit in the evolving queues that are forming at every forecourt I'm passing during this tour of duty!

Lots of queues reported and sales up 25% on tuesday.

All a bit dumb as they have to give 7 days notice of any strike and only after a period of strike action would supplies run low - therefore we'll have enough to get us through Easter even if a strike is announced today.

But if everyone else is panic buying then supplies will run low (we have far less petrol stations than we used to and they generally have smaller tanks relying on more frequent refills) and so, sadly, it does make sense to join in.

Genius, except that the Fire Brigade freaked at the prospect of kids using full Cans as wickets; Father's decided to give the BBQ a bit of a kick start with some of that fuel from the Jerry Can........

(To be fair it was a shocking piece of sensationalist journalism, with the Sky Numpty practically shouting at the Tory, and the change in his voice when the Tory mentioned Jerry Can was embarrassing.)

Left the gym last night with 15 miles left on the clock so thought I'd better get some in case panic buying started in the morning. Drove to ASDA where they must have 12 pumps normally and it took an hour to queue (had no choice as I couldn't risk them not having any today) and only 4 pumps had any fuel left. That's the trouble with panic buying, it's all very well knowing it's terrible idea but you don't want to be the last person to cave.

It occurred to me that stations should have a way of limiting the maximum spend so you at least have to bother to queue again if you try to fill up.

Is it just me who sort of enjoys the sense of panic? :? I think I find life a little dull and hence hanker for a Walking Dead scenario. :|

Brilliant. At least this isn't the US where we'd all be panic buying shotguns instead.

It won't make me feel very comfortable driving down the M3 over Easter knowing most other drivers have a bootful of extra petrol.
Any accidents could turn into a fireball.

Fit a unicorn horn to the front of your car and then ram into them from behind.

This should cause the petrol stored in their boots to flow out and reduce the chance of a fireball if they have a crash.
