The novel Oneshot by Lee Child and starring Jack Reacher is to be made into a film.

Shooting to commence in September 2011 this year.

And guess who is to play Jack Reacher???

Tom Cruise

I have to ask who will be playing the remaining 40% of Jack Reacher in that case!!

 the rest of the cast being dwarves.

Worst. Casting. Ever.

Theres been pretty big complaints from Reacher fans for the last month since it was rumoured Cruise was in for the role. Cruise/Wagner productions bought the rights to this in 2005 and Chris McQuarrie who worked with cruise in the past has done the re-write to adapt it for the big screen so its no suprise really...

The rights for lee childs books are with a combination of producers and houses so unless someone goes round and buys them all up there's not going to be a Reacher series. Assuming there'd be one anyway after the first one with Cruise in it. Childs has said in the past when asked about cruise that Reachers size is not necessarily physical, its a metaphor for an unstoppable force. Poor get out imo. Tbh I'm struggling to think of whom would suit Reacher.

I just hope they don't mess up Harry Bosch the same way.

Every single book refers to Reacher as being huge (heightwise) and physically. Tom cruise just does not cut it to me, they should have just renamed the film as the latest Mission Impossible.

In terms of who could play Jack Reacher.
I would have said this would be a ideal vehicle for Sean Bean if he perfects a American accent.

5'10 ish. Not exactly fufilling the physical requirements for it either - Reachers 6'5. if he was the build of Jason Maoma then maybe. Sam Worthington was rumoured to be in for it who'd be a better fit although not particularly great.

Apparently Cruise is 5ft7  according to various official sources.
I guess they could use Lord of the rings filming tricks to make him appear taller.
Calling out actors of 5ft2 and under :D

Moist you and I could be BIG pals.

Reacher and Bosch, my man (not into Pratchett myself though  )

I have every novel containing both on a special bookcase; sad I know but these two are the biggest and best characters around.

I'd like to know why One Shot though as whilst it's great I feel others are better suited to film, perhaps The Hard Way or Persuader.

As for Cruise, I like him but he simply doesn't have the physical presence, it just doesn't work. However that's purely because I've read all the books and for those not 'in the know' as it were I suppose it's a moot point?

Either way I can't wait.

I think theres a few books that would make decent introduction, gone tomorrow, the hard way or probably killing floor which as the 1st book had the character introduction set up already.

Good point about non reacher fans although the film being considered just another action film takes a bit of gloss off it. Theres a few things they'd have to tweak - his muscle mass stopping a small caliber bullet for one in Tripwire. You could probably put a cap gun through Tom :) should have put a spoiler alert on

My heart sank when i saw the cast list for the lincoln lawyer, although to me the books are not to the quality of Bosch it felt like a horrible portent. I've not been able to bring myself to watch it yet.

Bosch will make a screen somewhere now, whether its tv or cinema I don't know.

Finished Gone Tomorrow today - not sure that would work so well.

Killing Floor seems the obvious choice - not least as it was the first book.

Just 2 to go in the series but another in the offing - I don't usually like thrillers of this genre but Reacher is so ludicrous I am addicted.

I guess the reason One Shot may be being made first is its a combination of Cruise/Wagner are able to push & finance the one they own through first and maybe others had already been optioned before they got in the market for a Reacher book.

Another who has read every Reacher AND Bosch here.

I like Cruise, and he will do a fine job for anyone who hasn't read any of the books, but for a fan of the series - he is as much a Jack Reacher as Nick Jonas. Reacher is more the Dolph Lundgren mould size wise IMHO.

As for Bosch, the author himself has said he fancies Billy Burke in the role. Which would make Bosch 10yrs old in The Black Echo. Always liked the idea of William H. Macy as Bosch myself.

Personally I think a wrestler called Ken Anderson would make a good Jack Reacher, he is 6ft2 just short of the 6ft3 but has the image for Reacher.

I like William H Macy apart from being horribly miscast in the U.S. Shameless, but he wouldn't do it for me here. Have seen Vincent D'Onofrio and Kevin Bacon suggested for it.

Probably trhe only character thats taller :) They're the only Harlan Coben books I like - the rest are a bit meh.

Can thoroughly recommed Bosch - they're excellent. If you can, get them in some sort of chronological order, his career jumps around a bit through the books but its by no means essential. I didn't read them like that - just a couple of 'ah' moments when you read something referenced in another book.
