OK Boys, My one team has miraculousl made it to the last 64 in the Amateur Matchplay. I have 8 Transfers left and my team is thus.

Woods
Singh
Choi
Mahan
Romero
Karllsson

Bench - Nathan Green, Damien McGrane, Scott Verplank, Robert Jan-Derksen, Frederik Andersen-Hed, Van der Waalt

His team

Mickelson
Els
Singh
Rose
Austin
Mahan

I'm thinking Verplank in for Choi or Mahan - his team looks OK, he only has 3 transfers remaining and I can't see him burning any this week, his active bench players are Jerry Kelly & Raphael Jacquelin.

So what strategy would you Professionals use....

Hi AK

Well to start off - Mickleson is not playing so that is a plus for you. Also with all 70 making the cut in the states it probably makes good sense to load with them.

Especially as 70 is already down to 66!

I would therefore remove the 2 euro players and add Green and Verplank.

This would make the teams

Singh v Singh (Neutral)
Mahan v Mahan (Neutral)
Woods v Els (Plus!)
Choi v Austin (Neutral assuming Choi fit)
Verplank v Rose (Neutral)
Green v Kelly? (Neutral)

You may question Green but he can score low and needs to perform well. Therefore you could argue Romero for Green which may not be silly.

Apart from that you look in good shape (Even better now that Mickleson is out!)

Good luck - spend more time on your football team in the TFF - it is useless

If you could cover Els as well then you would be looking pretty good.....

Good point - on current form I would be more interested in covering Els than Singh!

what time do they tee off in USA tomorrow.

most prob be my downfall in mentioning this but im in last 64 of the pro, and would need to make a change if Choi doesn't show.

    I'm Hooked v Major doubt

    USA T Woods v USA T Woods
    USA J Furyk v EUR L Westwood
ROW KJ Choi v ROW R Sabbatini
    EUR J Rose v EUR J Rose
    EUR S Hansen v EUR S Hansen
    USA H Mahan v USA H Mahan

ESPN News: Choi says the back pain that forced him to withdraw from the Deutsche Bank Championship won't cause him to miss the next two FedExCup events, the Boston Globe reports.
Notes: This was Choi's sixth tournament in nine weeks, so he feels a few days off will help him get back in shape. Still, he'll be an injury risk the next two weeks.

so question is do i replace with Sab and have a 1 off between Furyk and Westwood with my player already having a certain 2pts, or just bring in either J Senden, B Snedeker or Romero?

didn't know id even got past 1st round till now, so prehaps i shouldn't of checked

OK to get Els in, which makes sense. I've had to sell Choi, Karllsson & Verplank. The other two coming in are Snedeker & Weekly - both of whom are currently top 20 (Fedex Cup)

This gives me a team of

Woods V Rose - advantage me
Els V Els - neutral
Singh V Singh - neutral
Mahan V Mahan - neutral
Snedeker V Austin - 50/50
Weekly V Jacquelin - slight edg to me with Boo guaranteed 2 points to make the cut

He has made a change dropping Mickelson for Jacquelin :)

So should Nathan Green be in at the expense of eiher Weekley or Snedeker

Was it worth using 3 subs AK - why not just swap Els for VJ?

If you getr through you will need the subs later?

Still not too late!

I'll start by saying all my 8 teams are out of the matchplay

However, I'd ditch Singh (had him in too many of my teams waiting for him to hit form) and simply bring in Els.

This would result in;
    Els v Els
    Mahan v Mahan
    Woods v Singh
    Verplank v Rose
    Romero v Austin
    Karlsson v Jacquelin
and more importantly leave you 7 transfers for he remaining 5 rounds :)

EDIT : Great minds think alike, Pads :D

Karlsson has come 1st and 4th at Crans-Sur-Sierre in his last 4 appearances.............so are you sure you don't want to bring him in for Green, AK?

Right - now we see how 2 fools of the fantasy golf world have swayed AK into a massive mistake.

Hope not!

Good luck

Here is me giving advice and all my 4 went out first week. Away goals in one instance which was the only one that hurt as I had decided to sacrifice the others for the long term good.

So much good that did me!

All go then AK... good luck...

My Matchplay tie ended up as (me first):

GREEN - GOOD FOR ME
RED - GOOD FOR HIM
ORANGE - NEUTRAL

(T3) -8 T Woods v T Woods -8 (T3)
(T3) -8 J Rose v J Rose -8 (T3)
(T35) -1 R Sabbatini v R Sabbatini -1 (T35)
(T52) +2 R Allenby v J Furyk -3 (T17)
(T12) -4 KJ Choi v G Ogilvy +9 (65)
(T58) +4 S O'Hair v S Hansen +6 (MC)

I took out Cink in favour of Allenby, as I read that Allenby likes this course and does well there. I was looking to perhaps drop O'Hair for Romero, but missed Romero's tee-off time - so fingers crossed that doesn't turn out a mistake.

wasn't willing to risk Choi, just incase his rest went against him.

blimey AJC... not much between you two! I am keeping a beady eye on Choi. I couldn't bring myself not to play him, and I suppose it would be an in-play retirement if he does pull out anyway... :?

Could do with Rose and Austin going backwards as I think his team is slightly ahead at this stage.

All a bit close for us then! Cink is giving me that cinking feeling at the moment. Allenby is nowhere, and Cink is right on the pace. This is just like watching the Ryder Cup!

AK - I think you are in the lead. Jacquelin looks like he needs a stormer!
Woods will inevitably get ahead of Rose.....The rest does itself

JOb done!

As for dropping Cink for Allenby - I feel counselling is in order. Cink is one of the most reliable payers on tour and Allenby one of the least (Unless you count being reliable as guaranteeing that he will choke if in the lead after 54 holes).

I hope the rest of your team pull you through - good luck

Well clearly, yes! You are right. I should learn that whenever I try something different, it never works. :? However, Cink hasn't performed well since The Open, and certainly disappointed in the FedEX so far, although Allenby has been even worse! But this quote just got me thinking....

Quote:
The Aussie has been in woeful form over the summer but, from nowhere, finished eighth in Boston after a 67.

The strange thing is that everything suddenly seemed to click. He hit the ball long and straight, his iron play was excellent, he scrambled well and he holed his putts.

If Allenby could choose a course on which to keep that momentum going it would probably be Cog Hill.

He won this event in 2000 and has only finished worse than 16th once in the last five years (2006) and then only because of a poor final round 75.

"I think the whole course sets up perfect for me," Allenby has said and as a player who can stay hot when things go his way he could be a dangerous customer at 80/1.

I can see how you can be swayed by that - very tempting!

Looking for next season it will be worth looking at how the guys on the bubble perform ie between 25-35.
Byrd is 30th and has done well from the off.

Ok - what I really mean is "Let's laugh at the chokers!"

Well, my oppo had Hansen miss the cut today, so he only has Furyk up in one match, and I have Choi and O'Hair doing the biz for me in the others. Luckily for O'Hair, no cut! Geddit? And a strange quirk of fate - I am having my O'Hair cut tomorrow.... blimey, today! Time for bed!
