In 225th place with only 8 transfers left...................you were already finished Kdub :P

And we're only talking Choi, Canete and Fisher here, it'll probably save you points

As I told Mr Matt Green several times... There comes a time in every man's life when "reality" takes priority over "fantasy"

Tell me about it - try having a young family!

Kdub wrote:
If someone was away on work for 5 days and couldn't access a computer... why can they have NO OPTION to set up an automatic sub, like they do in Classic with supersubs?

Entrants usually have five and a half days to set up their team in advance of the next event. If they know they're going to be away during such a period, they can take the action described in the Help section:

Same effing shitte happened to me last season. for a 15 pound per team entry fee, this is child's play.

Leaving three players on the bench (presumably your better players were left in your team from The Open Championship) in a single-weighted event shouldn't be life or death - it will probably cost you a few points, but it could save you from minus six!

Kdub wrote:
ok supersubs wouldn't be possible... because the field comes out very late.

Exactly - this comes up in the survey every year, and I have to explain that golf and football are entirely different - you can assume that a footballer is scheduled to play when their team has a fixture, but you can't assume that a European player is scheduled to play in every European event, for example...

Kdub wrote:
but at least an automatic option of "un-benching" players and simply using the top 6 most expensive ones. or however many the case, just get them on the course.

This isn't possible due to the constraints of the current system, but something I would continue to press for during the next database/site overhaul. Obviously there would have to be a clearly defined secondary sorting criteria - just in case the sixth and seventh most expensive active players were the same price.

ultimately... it's my own fault.

now for the return of Stuart Gill's death list... missed cut for (my buddy) KJ Choi and (my swing coach) Oli Fisher

KDUB - you can send me your ign in detail and I will ensure on a Tuesday that all are live thn if you want. If you at least shuffle to live players on the Sunday of an event then the worst case scenario will be a useless sub coming in

Yes kdub this is what a few of us do when unable to access to the net I would also be prepared to help.
On the bright side for me I may go back top of our prize league

Glover? a man of your intelligence should have better reasoning skills... if i had time to make a bet on KJ Choi, don't you think i would have brought him off my subs bench first?

Unless you're talking about in-running wagers, which i don't have access to.

of course, now he's in the lead and making me suffer for my subs debacle...

The disqualification of Furyk from the Barclays has got me thinking, how does this work regarding the First Reserve Feature?

I'm sure Mr G  will clarify, but it seems like the Reserve feature only kicks in when a player makes a last minute withdrawl before he is due to start. So will it also work for situations like Furyks disqualification?

Quote:
The First Reserve feature allows entrants to cater for the possibility of a late withdrawal by one of their active six selections.

To set up a reserve (who will automatically come into your active six selections in the event that one of your chosen players subsequently withdraws), simply click the FIRST RESERVE button on your team screen. Select the player from your current six substitutes that you wish to come into your team in the event of a late withdrawal and press SAVE.

I'm only interested as my next matchplay opponent has Furyk in his team. I assume he will switch Furyk out later, but what would happen if Furyk is kept in and another active player on the bench is set as first reserve? And would Furyk score -2 as he failed to make the cut?

No, Furyk won't get -2 as he isn't starting the comp.

If he DQ'd after starting the tourney proper he would, but he didn't so he won't.

I'll tweet Mr. G for the 1st reserve Q.

Cheers, I thought that was the case. I've never heard of this sort of disqualification before, certainly not with a high profile player like Furyk.

This is the first time that I've been aware of that a DQ has been known in advance, so this will be treated in the same way as a late withdrawal - no minus points and first reserves have already come into effect.

Had Furyk started his round, but was then disqualified, he would have scored minus two.

Indeed, a total of 169 teams benefitted from the first reserve feature in this instance.

Thanks for the clarification Mr G. Surprised that only 169 teams had JF in their top 6.

A gentle comment/suggestion, folks.

Does anyone feel there's a genuine need to quote the whole of a previous post before responding?

The football forums, especially in relation to Sun games, have become more difficult to wade through and digest (no, not simply due to dotty ramblings but also because of the increasing occurrence of quotes within quotes). Surely we golf forum readers and posters are capable of scrolling back to a previous comment on the rare occasion the contents of a new reply aren't obvious?

The storage/archive needs of the forum might be reduced by, say, 30% if the quote feature was disabled or just used sparingly, eg, to edit and quote just the phrase that is prompting a response. Let's think green, eh...

* and before you quote this comment when replying: no, that wouldn't be helpful nor humorous! *

Far more than 169 teams would have had Furyk in their starting six (over 400 it seems), but only 169 had him in their starting six and had set a first reserve.

More fool those that didn't set a first reserve if they end up with only five active players!

Sam - Although I usually do strip out the content which isn't directly relevant to my reply, admittedly I failed to do so in my previous posting. Consider my wrists well and truly slapped...
