When I first got into this download lark I used Limewire, and I have to say it worked really well.
I then realised that it isn't totally legal to use this kind of file sharing site and morals got the better of me...
I now use Tesco.com It is easy to use and costs the same as most others I've heard of, 79p per track or £7.99 per album download.
It's not free, but for people who want to stay within the law, I certainly recommend it.

I take it that you have discovered all the free mp3s at Amazon.com?

e-music is OK. You can get a free trial which means you can download about 50 tunes I think. You just have to remember to cancel cos you're signed up for $10 a month. Which is still quite cheap. i-tunes is 79p a pop.

epitonic.com is also good. A lot of unknown bands on there if you like discovering new stuff.

allofmp3.com isn't free but its cheap and clean of any nasties (as far as I know, but I've got a mac so tend not to pick any malware/spyware/adware up anyway). Costs about $1.50 per album and is (just about) legal according to current thinking. They exploit a loophole in russian copyright law. Record companies don't like it but have not been able to close it down - it's been going for at least a couple of years now, probably longer.

Excuse my ignorance on this subject but......

Someone at work told me about this site, they told me to first download Bitlord 1.1 which I have done.
I have then searched mininova.org and downloaded an album that I want.
It's sitting there in Bitlord, what the hell do I do now?
i.e. How do I get it to play
How do I put it onto a CD?

I'm a song downloading virgin, so please be gentle with me, I'm also old and not of the best technical mind!

Thanks.

What format is the file in, is it real player/windows media/mp3

Is the file compresed (RAR) if so you need win_rar unpacker.

Need Nero or something else to put onto CD (can get Nero from Mininova too!)

Could always try using a specialist music shop - great choice good service - most albums less than a tenner - ah well it is nostalgia time.

Surprised at the no of people with i pods who still spend serious money on CD albums - must be the see them hold them buy them factor.

Still spend far to much on cd's, like to have the cover notes (who wrote song etc) but still miss the cover notes that you got on a LP, often would buy a record just on strength of the cover writing.
Love the conveniance of cd's mp3 type music, but coming home taking a vynal out of its cover, reading the back of cover with a nice cup of coffee, you cant beat it.

I use limewire and windows media player, but I keep getting an error come up when trying to burn to cd.
The error is telling me that I need to select a slower speed or a different brand of cd.
I have now selected the slowest speed and 3 different brands of cd with no joy. Anyone got any advice???

Ive not had that specific problem with WMP..but had others. I use Nero to burn mine, but there is lots of free software out there for burning cd's. Just search google or download.com, which has users reviews.

www.ISOhunt.com is my weapon of choice you can get quite obscure albums on there as well as films, TV (even match of the day) and just about everything.

limewire etc are ok, but really you need to start using Torrents as they are much quicker and the way forward! Almost all sites have an idiot's guide (which I was!) and also a forum just like this one with loads of useful people on there.

This is my site of choice as there are loads of links to other decent sites on there. Its great for US tv shows like Lost or Prison Break - you get the episodes about 6 months infront on there!
