Not sure i get the point of these cheap Russian/foreign sites at all.

The reason they are so cheap is the site keeps all of the money. i.e. nothing goes to the artist. So there is no 'moral' reason to use them.

I can't imagine the law is ever going to crackdown on a private user downloading a few hundred tracks for free from torrents. And i question just how any of these cheap sites are any more legal than downloading for free.

Does paying (even though just a few pence in some case) make it feel more right than getting it for nothing? Or is it because people are not aware of torrents yet and carry on using stuff like limewire?

Not judging anyone. Just curious to know why.

That's an interesting point. Paying a few pence for an illegal download is worse than getting it for free, because you're giving money to criminals.

I'm working and can afford to buy my music so it would be wrong, morally, for me to download illegally. But in the case of, say, a student who has no money to buy music, it's not going to make any difference to the artist if he downloads illegally. It would be a victimless crime and therefore, I would argue, morally OK.

So when the soap dodgers get a decent job will they pay back their dues  A good percentage of the money in the music industry comes from them anyway. Most artists these days understand that illegal downloads can actually help them, Its the record companies that seem to be doing the whingin.

I just downloaded the Prodigy's new album FOC of course (torrents) i'll probaly buy the CD aswell tho !!

I use http://hypem.com to find new music. It's a site that lists all the mp3 links off thousands of music blogs. It's presented in a nice format, you can listen to mp3's on the page and then access the original blog if you want to download it. It's a nice methods for really cutting edge single tracks.

If you want an album, I find it easiest now just to search for the artist and album name along with "rapidshare" or "megaupload" on goole.

I used to use kazaa based programs (limewire, shareazaa, etc) but I find I get greedy and then have too many concurrent downloads which leads to problems or it's hard to get really new, small artists. It's fine if you're after established artist though.

For fans of cheap, fully legal, downloads 7digital are doing an advent calendar of 24 * £4 albums. Those unveiled so far include Pixie Lott, Black Eyed Peas, Calvin Harris, The Enemy and Doves. 3 more windows to go.

Go here for a free mp3 download from Pure Love.
I know it sounds like an r & b artist, but don't worry I have not gone soft in the brain, it's a rock band put together by former Gallows frontman Frank Carter + others.
Good track.
