Just to let you know this will be running, I'll kick off a new thread for the first GP sometime later this week or early next week.

Australian GP is on Sunday 27th so the predictions deadline (start of qualifying) will be sometime in the very early hours of saturday (AKA friday night - 25th March).

For any newcomers feel free to see the old threads in this forum to see more details but basically for each GP you predict the top 10 drivers in finishing order for each GP and get points depending on how well they (and you) do.

As last year there will be glory available for winning each GP, the season long comp and the 3 (probably) short term cups that run over a few consecutive GPs.

See ya soon....

HOW THE POINTS WORK FOR EACH ROUND

Each GP all you need to do is predict the top 10 finishers.

For each one you get in the correct position you get 25 points. If they finish one place out from your prediuction then you get 18 pts, 15 for two places out then 12-10-8-6-4-2-1 etc like the new F1 points. No points if your pick finishes outide the top 10 (gutting if your pick for 10th comes home 11th). e.g. If you pick Hamilton to come 3rd but he comes 2nd you will get 18 pts for being one out. There is no weighting so your 1st place pick is only as important as your 10th place pick.

Entries must be in by start time of first qualifying session. Edits allowed until then (you can swap your picks after seeing the friday practice sessions etc.) but strictly no edits or entries after that time or you will get the black flag.

HOW THE FISO COMP POINTS WORK

The best score in each round will 'win' the Grand Prix and get glory and 25 points then 18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 just like the real thing.

Ties will be decided by:
a) How many points the driver you picked to win got
b) How many points the driver you picked to come 2nd got, then 3rd, 4th etc to 10th
c) The finishing position of the driver you picked 1st then 2nd etc (will only count if your picks are classified finishers outside the top 10)
d) How many laps were completed by the driver you picked 1st then 2nd etc (will only count if your picks are not classified as finishers)
e) Who entered their team first (goes by timestamp on post of last edit)

I will also tally everybody's total points scored during the rounds as the 'form guide' secondary comp.

There will be various side comps and cups arranged later on.

HOW TO PICK

As I will be doing it all by spreadsheet I will ask nicely (but seriously) that everybody:

1. Sticks to the template
2. Uses driver surnames only with the correct spelling as per BBC Drivers list
3. No witty comments / smileys on the predictions lines (NOTE - these are copied directly into the spreadsheet so any extra bits could as incorrect spellings meaning 0 points!. Feel free to explain your madness, insult people or just post crap after the key 10 lines.

TEMPLATE

Just list your 10 drivers in order 1st to 10th

e.g.

Raikkonen
Moss
Mansell
Massa
Rosberg
Nakajima
Bourdais
Vettel
Fisichella
Alguersuari

DEADLINES

The deadline is always the official start time of first qualifying. I will state when I think first qualifying starts but it is up to you to check. If the official start time changes then the deadline changes.

Entry is open to everybody and newcomers will be free to join at any time.

Caveat - I reserve the right to throw anybody out of the competition who I deem does not post in the spirit of FISO. 99% of you will be fine so don't worry. My decision is final.

My mistake (sorry Spiny) - this isn't the picking thread (but a seasonal 'rules and news' type of thing

Please pick on the Round 1 thread

Sidecomps
Havin looked at the calendar, there are only 2 races (Rds 2 & 3) before I need to start the European Cup so the Early Doors Cup won't be running this season.

The European Cup will again run over 10 races (9 Euro GPs and the guest Canadian GP) from Rounds 4-13. 2 legged knockout with 32 entries (byes or qualification based on scores after Round 3, you must enter Round 4 to be eligible. Newcomers at round 4 allowed in if we don't go over 32).

The FlyAway Cup based on scores from the long distance season ending races has 6 rounds this year (Rounds 14-19) - maybe 7 if they rearrange Bahrain.

Round 2 thread now open

2012 Update

All,

I am probably going to be running this again this year (3 and a bit weeks to round 1).

I know I am not the best at doing the scoring on time so maybe we should do something different??

This whole comp started from one I played on the web 100 years ago in the days pre-FISO  - these games still exist out there and are often called "Pick 6" as they started in the days of only 6 point scorers, not sure if it was 10-6-4-3-2-1 in those days or even earlier in the 9-6-4-3-2-1 era?

Anyway.... If I can find one that is simple enough and incorporates mini-leagues (preferably password protected to keep it in house) and has our point system (some incorporate Pole predictions or fastest lap) then I might suggest we switch to using that for entry/scoring and I just run the sidecomps on here. Alternatively I am happy to pass over the reigns.

I'll keep looking and keep you informed. If anybody finds something let me know.

EUROPEAN CUP - LAUNCHES NEXT WEEK

This runs over the next 9 GPs, 8 in Europe and the now traditional guest GP in Canada in honour of the great Gilles Villeneuve.

That gives us scope for 4 rounds of 2 legged direct matchplay, starting in Spain next weekend (11-13 May) with the 'last 32' with a one-off single leg final at Fantasy Monza in September, just 4 months away!

Draw to be made after the deadline for entries to the Spanish GP. Anybody not entering the Spanish GP will not be eligible. I doubt we'll get to 32 so byes will be awarded in line with Championship Standings (and Form Guide standings where necessary / as a tie-break).

e.g. If we get 21 entrants (typical number so far) then the top 11 in the championship get byes and the other 10 play off in 5 matches so we have 16 in the next round of the cup.

Everybody is welcome so if you are a newbie or a past player who hasn't played yet this season then this is a great excuse to start now - You'll be on 0 points in the main chamionship but then again so am I despite having entered all 4 rounds

In the highly unlikely event that we get over 32 entrants then newbies will be on a first-come, first-served basis with some missing out to keep to 32. If we don't get 16 then I'll cry before giving us all byes and letting others try and qualify at the next round (highest scores fill remaining places to get to 16).
