I've not seen many more votes in the comedy threads since yesterday - do you guys think I should cut these polls down to 3 days to speed up the whole process??

also in the event of a draw....

not a problem in the first round as I can stick the 4th equals into the final poll to go through, but for future rounds.....

what do you guys think of me inviting 5 fisoers to become a panel to make the call?
other options are, I choose, or we count back to see how what film got the most votes in the 1st round....

idea's welcomed

The football world cup (not to mention the Olympics) has a pretty tawdry reputation which isn't helped in the slightest by it's use of quangos and back room deals.

I think the Fiso Movie World Cup should be above all that.

The more democratic and transparent the decision making process is the better, count back the votes I say.

On the other hand if it's easier for you to go with another solution then that fine by me as well.

Cut the polling time down Bazza... 3 days is more than enough time for all interested to vote.

Yeah, cut it if you like.

As for draws: just have another poll. Head to head, 24 hours.

Risk Management. I like your style. also delegating the real betting to someone who is generous to give us all £20 to bet with was a superb piece of Man Management.

Can I volunteer to be one of the five. I am completely impartial.

I don't go to the Cinema, but I listen(ed) to Kermode and Mayo on R5, better than the films I say, and I now have an encyclopedic knowledge of all releases for the past few years, except the last 6 months, or so as I have MP3 Player on R6 on i the shop. I don't see this as a problem as there are not many new releases on the lists. I also have 1001 Movies in the shop, if I am struggling

I was just about to vote in these polls, and I noticed nobody is saying what they voted for. Wondered why. I didn't say much in the Nominations round and was planning to comment this time around.

you can find films through into the 2nd round here - viewtopic.php?f=169&t=60059

I've also editted all the titles so far, so that you know when each poll ends, I hope that's of benefit to you all.

I'm going to run all of round 1 and then round 2 (to get to the final 64) before I run the "special" round, i.e you will know 60 of the 64 qualifiers before voting on this. Schedule tells me this final poll will start on the 8th or 9th of July and we will have our final 64 3 days after.

thanks to all the votes so far, I know its a slog but please keep voting in each poll :D and for those of you that haven't yet seen the sweepy, I'm running a side comp with prize here - viewtopic.php?f=169&t=59909, lets get it filled up :D

cheers all, so far so good, getting a great list of films, this is going to be tricky!

I'm working on a seeding system based on number of films nominated in each genre, number of votes cast in the poll and number of votes received by each film.... based on that the "strongest" 10 films into round 2 so far are (in order).....

Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane!
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
alien
Shawshank Redemption
Jaws
ET
Trading Places

top 10 into round 2 so far are...

Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane!
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Toy Story
alien
Jungle Book.
Shawshank Redemption
Jaws

while the weakest 10 so far are...

Midnight Cowboy
Slumdog Millionaire
A Grand Day Out
Fantasia
Meet the Parents
The Hitcher (Rutger Hauer)
The Others
The Thing (Carpenter version)
lion king
Snow White & the 7 dwarfs

we're getting there folks, we're getting there - thanks for the continued enthusiasm, it would be a pointless exercise without all you guys coming back each day and voting - cheers 8-)

this movie world cup got me to watch Run Lola Run (1998) last night for some reason. i don't think it has been nominated. anyway, it turns out Run Lola Run is a german language film and at first seems to mostly involve Lola running and she didn't seem that hot. after the first ten minutes i thought "how crap", turned it off, went and did stuff, and came and continued it. and i was in for a surprise. it's a really good movie and i liked it. it's got an interesting concept, and a great dance soundtrack - for some reason Lola grew hotter the longer i watched her. ha ha. i checked it out on imdb afterwards and it was rated 8.0/10.0. i recommend it highly. :)

8 more polls to go, (4 tomorrow, 4 Wednesday) and that'll be round 1 finished.

Round 2 will see the final polls for each genre, probably 4 per night running for 3 days each. As and when your favourites get knocked out I'd like you to take note as I'm going to run the wildcard nomination from scratch, so you have a chance to see which 60 films make it through to the final 64 before nominating your 5 in the last chance saloon. You can either choose ones that have been knocked out in round 1 or 2 or nominate new films that haven't been mentioned.

see here for films into round 2 so far

see here for the "wildcard" nomination thread

I've still to work out how best to avoid duplicate films in the final 64. I think I'll have to make a call as to which Genre they fit best.

All good ideas, Baz.

I take it you've given up the day job to run this competition?

As there is a proper football tournament next summer you'll have to stick to a smaller scale tournament. Chocolate bars maybe?

How about a world cup to decide the best colours you can get on a zebra crossing, or if we have time the nicest colours on traffic lights?

Just a thought.

tricky!

Green is obviously good as it means you can go but Red means Liverpool and I know an Amber.

I'll abstain.

only an hour or so left for the following polls.....

arthouse

then we know 60 of the final 64, the other 4 being decided in the free for all that is Bazza's Specials which closes for nominations just after midnight. the polls will be posted shortly after with just a 2 day window for voting!
