I stepped on my HTC desire last night and now the screen is black blocks and lines

Just wondered if anyone could recommend a good company/site that they've used for repairs/screen repairs?

is it insured? if so can you not just get a new one?

Not insured no, looking around the cost of repair should be £40-£90, have never lost/broken any mobiles so have avoided 15 years of insurance.

Have you also checked that it's not covered by your household insurance ? Some are.

It should be but the excess will probably be almost as much as a Desire costs.

Not sure about the HTC though my iPhone had the same thing, and I brought a new screen for £10 eBay, then changed this myself was quoted £80.. Took a while though worked again fine…

screen and tools ordered from ebay for £20, I just know this will go wrong, not exactly Mr DIY

Left my details with repairworld over the weekend before ordering the digitilizer.
Have just spoken to them and even though the outer screen is not damaged they reckon I won't have any luck in just replacing the digitilizer due to the lining up etc, have also watched some videos and literally ever piece needs disembling including the on/off switch, volume etc

This is gonna go so very badly wrong
