I've just finished disc 2 of 8 in my Michel Thomas - Learning Spanish CD set.

What can I say but wow! The ease at which I am learning is amazing. No memorizing, no books, nothing written, just all audio. After 3 or 4 hours of listening to the discs I am already stringing basic sentances together with ease.

I was worried about wasting my money on something like this and throwing it out after one listen but I'm genuinely hooked now. £39 was how much I paid and it's the best thing I've bought this year. He uses a different method to how most other Spanish learning sites or courses use. Instead of learning lists and lists of individual words, you learn to construct sentances. And he starts with a lot of words that are similar to their English word so you instantly have a grip of a lot of the vocabulary you need.

Highly recommended! I made it my New Years resolution to learn basic Spanish before the end of the year. Going well up to now thanks to this.

Hi 3YM,

I used MT when I was starting too - good for confidence boosting. Another great source of elementary Spanish is the BBCs site:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/

The Mi Vida Loca videos are excellent I think. There is also http://spanishpod.com/ which used to let you have a week's free trial (per e-mail address), and a lot of the podcasts were downloadable, so you could just download as many as possible during your trial.

As a reference, the Collins English/Spanish dictionaries which have a very large verbs and grammar section at the back are the best I have found. Online, the best quick dictionary resource is http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/tradici%C3%B3n

Good luck.

Thanks for that Pincher, I'll be sure to check them out as I progress!

And John, I'm not one to speak too soon, so I'll have to let you know in a few months when I'm sure

I didn't know he knew Spanish. His history is quite interesting if you google him, think he was a concentration camp survivor.

CDs are v.expensive, luckily my library had the 8 disc french set. Would it be illegal if they were all now on my iPod?
