I was looking at Taylor's 164 points as a defender last season. If he was rated as a midfielder, he would have had 144 (see calculations below). Comparing him to the other midfielders, he may still be a good value. The question is, how much will he play with all the new signings?

Last season - 6 games with 20 minutes or less
40 points from 10 clean sheets that wouldn't count as MF
10 points from 10 clean sheets he would have gotten as a MF
10 points were deducted from him as a defender for conceding 2 goals in a match
so he gained a sum of 20 points a defender

It's a very good point, the reverse of which can be applied to Everton's Neville to work out how many he would have scored as a defender.

I think that with Portsmouth's run of tough fixtures however, I won't be rushing to put any of them in my team!

fortunately (for FF players) we'll be able to see who plays while they go through a tough run of fixtures

Its good to see that but I do feel Taylor will still get points for his surprise bursts into the box and not forgetting his set-pieces...

and -8 points deduction also his 8 goals classified as a defender (6pts for a defender goal instead of 5 pts for a midfielder)? Makes it 136

but last year defenders and midfielders both received 5 points for goals. Back to 144 ;)

Defenders received 6 points for a goal last season as well.

Matt's in for a tough run of games but wherever he plays you can't really play down his sometimes freakish finishing. If he keeps chipping them in from the half-way line or just volleys them just outside the box then he's worth the punt at his value: Mind you, lots of his goals from last season were quite brilliant and sweetly struck (even better than Riise's piledrivers I reckon).

Is he still their penalty taker? He scored a lot of penalties the season before last.

I remember, last season, being frustrated by the surprising lack of penalties awarded to pompey - the few that were seemed to coincide with the few times taylor was dropped to bench. The only one I remember him being on the pitch for was first day of season when Kanu took it (and missed  ) because he was after a hattrick.

If he combines some penalties and some more super goals... 8-)
