I've had a mailshot from Amazon offering the usual 30 day free trial plus a £20 Amazon voucher.

Anyone use Lovefilm? Is it any good?

I might just take the trial. pocket the £20, and cancel. But the £10 a month (unlimited DVDs) looks decent value.

It's pretty good if you can stay on top of it particularly if you like boxsets.

I really used it for about a year and then would forget to send stuff back. I had a copy of one film sat with me for about 6 months which effectively ended up costing me £60 to rent. Then when I wanted to cancel my subscription and couldn't find the film to send back it then cost me another £15 to replace the lost film.

However, if you watch a lot of films/TV and are organised enough to send them back regularly it's worth it

How does it work with the box sets then Jag?

Do you have to watch all the episodes in 1-2 nights?

Love film is fantastic. Their turnaround times are 2nd to none.

If you watch loads of films, you really will get your money's worth from the unlimited option, as the day they received your returned DVD (I assume it's the same with games but we didn't get them out), they send out your next choice.

With the £20 amazon card it's a no brainer.

Dependent on the package you can normally have 2 discs at home at any one time so you get the 1st 2 discs in the set, watch the first one and send it back. While you get through the second one the 3rd one should be in the post. It all depends how quickly you get through the episodes really but like RichT says their turn around times are good. You can also have the discs at home for as long as you like so you are in no rush to have to get through them.

They also make sure to set out the boxset discs in order (would be quite  if they didn't)

I've been with lovefilm for a while (by accident really as they bought out alot of the smaller rental companies and I was with one called 'screenselect' at the time) and I have no complaints and I'd recommend them to anyone

I pay about £12 a month, and the package I'm on is 2 discs at a time unlimited (meaning I can have up to 2 discs at home at any time and I can watch as many as I want per month). They emailed me the other day to tell me they were upgrading my deal to 3 discs at a time, at no extra cost to me.....JURASSIC PARK!!! As others have said, the turnaround is very impressive, and you can definately take advantage of the 'unlimited' discs your entitled to. Depending on the package you're on, there is a lot of titles you can watch online to, either for free or an extra one off payment.

I have been with Lovefilm for about 5 years on and off. If your a film lover i would highly recommend Lovefilm, great service quick turnaround. I had it for a couple of years and then cancelled my subscription as i had watched what i wanted, after about another year they sent me a deal for 3 months free subscription which i took and since then have kept with them. I try and watch my 2 dvd's a week so roughly have 8 films a month for £13, good value for money.
The only gripe's i would have is that they don't have every new release and if you put a new release on top priority there's no guarantee you'll get it quickly.
Go for it, if you don't like it then make your money and cancel.

Not sure why anyone would choose to pay for this service?

Anything released on DVD is available to download for free.

Get a HDMI cable and connect your computer to your TV

Not wanting to get too involved in this discussion...but that's also possible via the download route...

Some people might realise that if nobody paid for films, there wouldn't be any good films. Those of us that love films, pay.

I completely agree.

Getting back on topic, Lovefilm is a great service. I've been with them for about 5 years. Recently on the 3 discs per month option which costs about £15 per month, although I got a fairly big discount for paying annually upfront. Agree with the shortcomings - although you can rank rentals High, Medium or Low priority, you still have no guarantee which film will come next, plus there is some sort of legal dispute with Universal Pictures I think so there are a few (fairly small number) of films which aren't available.
If you like box-sets, they have some nifty software which guarantees you get discs sent out in the correct order.

Having seen Deppy's post I'll be asking them for a discount when my annual sub comes up in Feb!

Anyone know of any good deals at the moment (either free or the one mentioned in the opening post).

So what does this mean; you can only get three discs per month (or you can have 3 disks at any one time)?

I have just got a voucher for two months free; says its worth £30.

So I guess this is the deal I am being offered.

I cannot access their site from here (work), so just wondering what it means?

This is what puts me off. I record loads of TV already and barely get a chance to watch it so I'd never see the value plus I've done bulk rental deals with Blockbuster and am always really struggling after the first few films to find any I want. I'd rather get a cheaper deal and get, say, 2 a month.

That's what I did. Hardly ever get time to watch a film these days, so Lovefilm's a bit of a waste for me. Quite impressed by the setup though. Easy to use and the one film that I did get (Avatar - which was a bit poo really after all the hype) came quickly, although I did destroy the return envelope when I opened the packaging.
