Hi

WIth weeks running out and chances of a prize diminishing by the minute the week of the VIKING CLASSIC will be a chance to either close a gap or even contend for a weekly prize.

With that in mind and to help your selections over the coming weeks to possibly include players commited to the event I was looking for an update.

This is all I have found - Details likely players SNEDEKER being the only one in contention at present events

http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs. ... /708250360

If anyone else finds detail then it could help those Fiso members at the right end of the table!

ie Not me

A cunning plan, my friend 8-)

Most difficult thing will be getting 6 players that are playing, to be honest, with the Presidents Cup that week and no Euro event

Here's the website for the Viking, but no sign of a player list yet :(

http://www.vikingclassic.com/welcome.shtml

    Recent winners;
      2006 D.J. Trahan - United States
2005 Heath Slocum - United States
2004 Fred Funk - United States
2003 John Huston - United States
      2002 Luke Donald - England
2001 Cameron Beckman - United States
2000 Steve Lowery - United States
1999 Brian Henninger - United States

And what's with the job change, Paddy? Staying in the confectionary business, I hope

FS Record: Won OFL Golf 'Majors' title 2003 - and a few small prizes
What the hell are OFL playing at by counting the Viking Classic - some bloody 'classic', it must be the worst field of the year ! - for the matchplay comp, but not including the Tour Championship the other week, which was a double scoring comp that most of the world's best players were competing in?!

My one remaining matchplay team has just one player competing in the Viking , so I'll probably have to burn 3 transfers (out of 8 remaining) to stand a chance this week. I haven't seen my opponent's team yet but if it already contains, say, 3 players who are competing, if he has the transfers available then he can put out a full team this week, but the best I can do is 4 players. I don't consider that a proper contest - much better to have included the Tour Championship week when we all had plenty of options, rather than this farce.

Puppyfeat - Hold your horses before embarking on such a rant...

I'm not sure where you got the idea that the Viking Classic was to be included in the Matchplay competition as this was never the case. Indeed, this was actually stated in last week's game news email.

Last 16 matches will take place in the form of next week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Valero Texas Open.

Where possible, Matchplay weeks are scheduled for weeks with two events of equal weighting on either side of the Atlantic, or weeks consisting of a "World event", such as a Major or WGC event.

That was a misplaced rant and a half! The matchplay information is plastered all over the site.
A word of advice for the matchplay Puppyfeat, is to make transfers at the last minute. I was in the semis last year (I didn't know until that point, my friends had to tell me there was such a competition!). My rival, lacking any competitive spirit, simply copied my five players and added another in. So leave it till the last minute!
I'm not so innocent in my second year though (Hence my 5th place overall  )

Mr Green....two questions for when you peruse this forum later:
1. Our Friends and Enemies team is 4th overall but only contains 6(!) teams.
Bearing in mind our achievement is somewhat more impressive than the other teams, (who are succeeding purely due to mathematical probabability, FISO alone has 101 teams!). Am I right in thinking that we would never be entitiled to any sort of medal due to not having eight teams. Surely it's the wrong way round? Perhaps something to change for next year? Maybe there should be a limit on teams?
2. Nathan Green's website insists he's on his way to London right now so won't be in the Viking classic. Can we confirm that?
Also Flesch was meant to play three in a row, but is not on the list. Has he officially pulled out of the Viking?
Thanks, if you manage to reply...

Damage - In answer to your queries (although El Pappje is right in saying that direct queries should be emailed, rather than being posted on the forum):

1) The intention of the Friends and Enemies Championship is to try and increase entry numbers into Friends and Enemies Leagues, meaning that the more teams you have in a Friends and Enemies League, the more likely your F & E League is to win this particular competition.

However, it is fair to say that the FISO Forum have the monopoly of teams as far as this is concerned, and therefore do have an advantage.

The offer of a medal for all leagues with eight or more teams is again to promote entries into Friends and Enemies Leagues.

A limit has indeed been touted by several parties in the past, but it doesn't really make financial sense for us to limit the number of teams in any one league. Similarly, it's not in FISO's best interests to say who can and can't be in the FISO F & E League.

Having said that, being placed fourth in the F & E League Championship when your league only has six teams is a mighty fine achievement.

2) As you say, the official Nathan Green (again, no relation!) website seems to indicate that his next event will be the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and therefore won't be playing in this week's Viking Classic.

I suspect he will be removed from the official field listing in the next day or so, in which case he will be consequently removed from the provisional field listing on the Fantasy Golf site.

3) Steve Flesch isn't displayed within the official Viking Classic field listing so I can only assume that he changed his mind about playing this event last week.

Cheers,

Mr Green

Oh sorry...didn't know you could just email Mr G.

I might as well stay on here for one more comment!
I totally understand the 8 teams issue is...er...a necessary marketing tool.
but we have made an awful lot of effort trying to get just a couple more people on board. I emailed around 30 pals this year, but people are a bit cynical about online games due to the 'pure luck' nature of football fantasy, and laziness is a factor of course. Personally I reckon I've made more effort than most to get two more players in, but we frustratingly seem to end up with just the three same people. I put a second team in this year to cheer up my captain! (and experiment with a Tiger-less team...it doesn't work!)

Perhaps next year, any Friends and Enemies Teams who make the top ten can be exempt from the rule. I shall put that in the mysterious feedback form, (I have never seen).

Thanks for your concise and fair reply Mr G.

Keep grinding down the opposition everyone, 'it ain't over till the fat lady sings'...and I ain't got no fat lady records.

And if you see someone rugby tackle a leading player on my home course of Valderrama in a few weeks, it's just me trying to take out the opposition!

Damage - The annual questionnaire will be available in the next month or so, and yes, your comments will be appreciated. As usual, all entrants will be emailed when it's live, and there'll also a direct link from your team screen.

However, let's call it a gentleman's agreement that if your league stays in the top ten, I'll send your Chairman a gold medal! (You may need to remind me of this at the end of the season!)

I can appreciate that it's often difficult to recruit new members into an F & E League as it's only by playing the game that you realise what terrific value for money it is - even at the price of fifteen pounds per team.

On an aside, it has become apparant that Nathan Green has been replaced in the Viking Classic field by Richard Green in what must have initially been a typo by the PGA Tour. This also could explain Richard's absence last week, although not why he left it so late to drop out...

Sorry Mr Green, I didn't check last week's email. Feeling stupid, and rightly admonished. I'll check my facts in future
