If you are in southern England because there will be clear skies.

Look up around 8/9pm onwards and you'll see a near full moon and next to it on the right will be a very bright looking star. Although that won't be a star it'll be Jupiter.

It's way brighter than I expected

Agreed about the brightness......

I saw it! Gave it a wave in case aliens on the planet were looking at us too. The moon was big and bright too. Thought it was falling to earth it was that big.

Why is it we can see it so well tonight?

Logic dictates that it must be at the perfect angle to us and the sun to reflect the most. i.e. just the same reason as the moon is so bright, it is full.

Jupiter is getting brighter and bigger because it's coming into 'opposition' on the 29th of October. Which basically means that's the day it is closest to the Earth.

Nerdy... but true.

The moon is to the left of my pic, there a small flicker in the middle which I'm not sure of what and Jupiter is the speck to the right, the marvels of an Android camera and tapatalk

or isle of wight to do some big fat cow watching..when i was younger i was smoking a spliff in the middle of isle of wight field cause thats all that isle of wight is basically a field with loads of cows and old people and i swear to god the cow was giving me funny looks...its nearly worse than weston super nightmare

If you have a scope or some binoculars you'll see the 4 biggest moons tonight.

We can even see some bands of colour on the planet from my back garden.

Kids are bored now so dad gets to tinker for the rest of the night.
At least it has definitely sparked their interest in science and the stars.

amazing to think Jupiter is 390682810 miles from earth... If you weigh 100 pounds on Earth, you would weigh 253 pounds on Jupiter...Jupiter is almost 500 million miles from the Sun (483780000 miles). Earth is only 93 million miles from the Sun
