I've generated a list of current premier league players whose countries have qualified for the ANC 2012:

Arsenal - Gervinho (Ivory Coast), Frimpong :?: (Ghana), Chamakh (Morocco)
Aston Villa - Beye (Senegal)
Blackburn - None
Bolton - None
Chelsea - Drogba (Ivory Coast), Kalou (Ivory Coast), Essien (Ghana)
Everton - None
Fulham - None
Liverpool - None
Manchester City - K Toure (Ivory Coast), Y Toure (Ivory Coast)
Manchester United - Diouf (Senegal)
Newcastle - Ba (Senegal), Tiote (Ivory Coast)
Norwich - None
QPR - Taarabt (Morocco), Agyemang (Ghana), Traore (Senegal)
Stoke - Diao (Senegal), Sidibe (Mali)
Sunderland - None
Swansea - None
Tottenham - Coulibaly (Ivory Coast)
WBA - None
Wigan - Gohouri (Ivory Coast), Diame (Senegal)
Wolves - None

This list does not mean that these players will be selected for their countries squads.
If any one spots an error or an omission then post below.

BBC page:

Also maybe Tottenham's Pienaar should South Africa's appeal be successful.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15234546.stm

If Burkina Faso have been found to have fielded an ineligible player then Namibia who will replace them have no premier league players.

With any luck Kalou will be at Arsenal in January

Essien is injured and cannot play for club nor country in January

Wasn't sure on Essien's recovery time so stuck him in anyway. Can see him being fit just in time for the tournament.........

from a Newcastle blog:

Newcastle will be without both Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote in January as the African Cup of Nations will run in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea from January 21st to February 12th.

However there is a rule that the players are allowed to meet up with their squads a week before the competition begins so both players will leave Newcastle around the middle of January.

SA's manager clearly needs to do his homework in future:

Wonder no more why SA have consistently failed to qualify for major tournaments - they don't know the rules!

I stand to be corrected on this, but I do believe that there is a long standing national characteristic of South Africans of leaving anything until the last possible minute - if you really do want something done now, you have to say "I want it now-now".

Look mate - what really doesn't make sense is that the South African FA should have put a total dipstick in charge of the team who was so arrogant that he didn't even read the rules.

Its not only South Africa where one uses "now now". Its appropriate for several other countries in Africa. Also its better to prefix it with "DO it", rather than "I want it".

I think Frimpong has now opted to play for Ghana even though he had represented England at Youth level....maybe this years ANC will come too quick for him anyways.

No he hasn't. He reconciled and he's just played for Togo during the Internationals, but Togo didn't qualify for the ACN.

FS Record: 1 Motw in 2006 tffe, top 500 finish in euro 2008 tff! trying to break into that top 1000 in tff. much better at shorter games.
Tournament starts on the 21st, so more than likely the players will leave off a week early.

Manchester City's Yaya Toure seeks to delay departure for 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with Cote d'Ivoire

Yaya Toure is hoping to delay his departure to join up with the Cote d'Ivoire squad for the Africa Cup of Nations so that he can be involved in Manchester City’s crucial January fixtures.

The midfielder and his brother, Kolo, also of City, are due to link up with the national team on January 11, the day Roberto Mancini’s side are due to face Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
Toure wants to feature in that match as well as the Premier League trip to Wigan five days later, explaining to The Daily Mirror: “The problem is in this country we don’t stop.
....
“So maybe I can go on the 16th or 17th and the competition does not start until the 21st.”
