I hate these little blighters. If you garden organically and seeing as there is not a nematode available at the moment is there any alternative to spending hours searching for them amongst the foliage? At least until natural selection sets in their still bright red.

We've got our gardening forum :D

I don't have time to garden organically and I resort to spraying

But at least these blighters are easy to spot, knock off and squash.

The larvae looks like some form of digusting slimy shite - just hose or rub it off.

How can you kill a beetle called Lily? I'm so happy to have a gardening forum and I'm so new here and they listened to me and everything.

Cabbages for goalposts.

Back to Lilly beetle. If you want a truly organic go at getting 'em, try spraying sunflower oil on them. This is more likely to work at the larvae stage than the actual insect time of their lives. It will either kill them off or entice them into frying some chips which they may share with you.
Just to check, you are talking about the scarlet lilly beetle?

They were probably frightened by your avatar Glyn. :!:

Anyway with you having been at least a semi-professional gardener if not more have you any Lilly Beetle tips. Any companion plants, times of the year to net, any news on the nematode front?

murf you're right about the larvae/eggs, disgusting stuff.

Yes.

Why is there another little tinker? If there is I hope it's not green.

I'll bear the oil tip in mind though.

Have you never heard of the infamous psychedelic chameleon lilly beetle? You'll never see it unless you play Procul Harem music and drink babysham.
