So Landon Donovan is already training with everton and in line to make his debut against Bolton GW20.

Will he be added to the list of players beforehand?
If so, is he worth a punt for the DGW?

Depends if he's listed as a striker or not.

Just found a decent link on him. It says he could even be available for the New Year's day game away to West Brom so we'll get to see if he's straight into the lineup:

Scratch my last post. He's available only from the Bolton game onwards:

He was classed as a forward, which put alot of people off, and I wouldn't swear to it, but I think he was £7m??

You'd like to think FPL would recognise where he spent his time at Everton the other season, and classify him as a midfielder this time round.

If he's classed as a mid, i'll probably take a punt for the DGW and hope he starts v Bolton.

Now that you say it, £6m rings a bell!

Yeah it would fit into my plans more if he was classified as a midfielder.

He must surely be a starting 11, why else would Everton bring him back, it is not like they have a huge squad to fall back on. Looking forward to seeing him in action, and certainly a contender for Everton's upcoming run.

Although Moyes is often overly cautious when throwing in new signings (see Drenthe!) and kids, it's probably worth noting that he threw Donovan straight in at the deep end last time, starting him away at Arsenal. He had barely even trained with the team, if at all.

It's a tricky one, but with Everton struggling for goals, we could see Donovan thrown straight in. He's only here for a short while after all.

Is he likely to be added to everton list of players on FPL in time for the GW20 deadline?

First year on FPL so not sure how long it takes to update with new signings?

FPL can (and should), but will they is the bigger question!

Donovan's loan is only up until the Merseyside derby 25 Feb in GW 26 (covers eight PL matches over seven GW's)

I have a full set of doublers, so would have to do a straight swap with Drenthe IF he rises 0.2m AND IF Donovan is a 6.5m mid.

Everton website is saying that he arrives tomorrow and will be available for the game at Bolton (Sunday's game at WBA is too early for the transfer deadline).
http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2 ... ves-friday

The news ticker on SSN this morning is more decisive in saying that 'he will face Bolton on Wednesday'.

The question is, if he plays, who will he replace? The Everton team that started at Sunderland had Drenthe, Cahill, Osman and Saha playing.

Out of that lot, either Cahill or Saha. None of them are performing in front of goal.

He'll be classed as a forward, because he is.

The middle of midfield was very makeshift against Sunderland, with Heitinga pushed forward to replace the injured Fellaini, partnering Neville.....not something I want to see repeated!!

I could see both of them dropping out (assuming Fellaini is fit), with Osman moving central, freeing up a wide spot for Donovan.

But that's not where he played, and they may well (should!) take that in consideration. Seamus Coleman is a right-back, but because of where he was mainly used last season, he has been re-classified as a midfielder. That's how it works!

He's actually a midfielder for Club (LA Galaxy) and Country (USA) more often than not... Like his teammate Clint Dempsey, many managers use him as sort of "4th sub" by moving them forward later in a close match to give a different look to the team making the attack more potent...

I often thought he played as the second striker, but looking back to the world cup he did tend to play on the wing too.

Just an update on this.

I emailed FPL the following question :-

"Could you please let me know when Landon Donovan will be added to the list of players, if he will be a midfielder and at what price?"

Here's their response :-

"Donovan will be added to the list of players for the matches that he is eligible to play. Unfortunately we do not know yet what price he will be. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Regards

Fantasy Support"

Unfortunately, they chose to ignore the bit about him being a midfielder but at least we know that he's going to be added shortly.

I'm not sure they could have been any more vague if they tried.

While you were at it, did you happen to ask them if he was going to score a goal or two against Bolton?

Ha, it feels like FPL forgot and jazzyb69 sent them a reminder  And yes, this makes it interesting (throwing another Everton midfielder in the mix, causing diverse teams)
