For the benefit of those who take life far too seriously - lager is clearly not a drink only for girls/homosexuals/freaks.

It is enjoyed by a wide cross section of the country and beyond

and the term "lager drinking puff" is one heard many a time and is not meant as being derogatory

carry on...

Still tastless p*ss though and my knob is not that small if you squint and look at it from certain angles

Just because the term is heard often it does not make it non derogatory. The term does not have a place in modern society and is offensive.

I love lager but I can't handle the hangovers anymore - prolly all the rubbish that goes into it. hoegaarden or Peroni Gran Riserva

Bitter/ale every time. I've currently got a bit of a thing for Badger's Poachers Choice: http://www.folkale.com/blogobeer-archiv ... rs-choice/

Summer ale in summer, maybe lager if I'm really thirsty or hot.

I am a lager drinker and I know my place

(used to be a bitter drinker, but had a REALLY bad experience on 6X once and can't stomach the smell of it at all now. Winning an annual pub cricket match against a rival pub in the same village, following 6 years of straight defeats does make you drink too much..... and then some people can follow the trail of vomit from the pub to ones home!)

Stella is my tipple, mainly because it's strong and I like the taste.

But I do like real ales - any from 'The Black Isle Brewery' are nice - particularily Red Kite.

But when I'm at home I love Banks's Bitter.

Tough one as to which real ale I like most but I suppose a nice pint of Tintagel Castle Gold comes close or a chilled (not extra cold) Guinness. Fortunately, we have a freehouse Camra Pub of the Year close by so there is a good selection to try. I'm not so keen on any bitter over 6% proof as they start to get too sweet for my taste.

Some nice beers metioned so far. Just got back from Tescos where there was a special on Badger beers so I picked up some Tanglefoot, Hopping Hare and Fursty Ferret. All very nice. :)

Regarding the lager being a ladies drink issue at one time this was how it was viewed. When I used to go to the working mens club with my parents back in the sixties my Dad would ask for a pint of bitter and a beer for my Mom, this would automatically be some lager in a "ladies glass". Later on when playing rugby whenever you got a round in and someone asked for lager (very rare back then) everyone including the bar staff would ask if needed to be in a "ladies glass".

Of course back then if you asked for a glass of red wine then they used to chase you out with a pack of Jack Russells. :P

I don't generally drink lager but real ale and bitters are not that common in the Netherlands. There are some good Winterbiers from Belgium though.

I'm confused. I'm not supposed to post puff/poof, but I am expected to spell it right?

I'm going to Saltaire Beer Festival tomorrow so well try a few IPAs and ciders. Won't be going near anything over 5% though so might struggle with the ciders.

The Guinness was a pint with a fry-up, the rest were halves poured by hand straight from the barrel. None were underfilled!!!!!

last time I went to Nottingham's festival we played a tot up the percentages games and with an hour to go I was feeling good and was 7 or 8 % ahead, but was leaving before a few of them. I decided to up my %age to over 9 for the last hour thinking (It's halves, what damage can be done  )

The next day was not pretty but I was the only person who hit 100% 8-)

PS - It's neither big nor clever...please drink responsibly

Guinness export is quite good, if quite strong. I usually sample one at the Stoke beer festival

I would always have selected stout or bitter in this poll but I rarely drink anywhere these days that is capable of serving a good enough pint.

Most of my drinking is done at home these days and bottled lager is so much better than any bottled or canned beer. Only Boddingtons (if that even counts) is any good IMO. Always a huge let down to drink a bottle of a nice proper beer when you know how good it can be on tap.

I'll probably abstain then as the answer should be bitter/stout but is actually lager. Or maybe 'other' to cover single malt whisky!
