Nice one, hadn't spotted that. :D

Would it be possible to add a VFM (PPM) column to that table?

I haven't forgotten about this request snout, I just haven't had much chance to use the computer outside of work because I've just moved house. As things get sorted out at home I should have it added, along with lots of other new features.

By the way, if anyone who uses my site could give the advert banner at the top of the page a click every now and again, I'd very much appreciate it. So far it has earned me the vast sum of £1.34, almost enough for half a pint down my local.

Clicked through a few for you Jules, but can you get them more football/sport specific? Might help if the adverts were more relevant to the target audience?

Ta, I can almost afford a full pint now :D

Apparently I can make the adverts a bit more targeted, but it'll take a fair bit of tweaking so I'll do it as soon as I get the chance. I've got some time this weekend to work on the site so I'll see how much I can get done.

Love the stats, just wondering... what are you going to do with the "my team" link that is coming soon...

I'm going to do a page where you can generate stats for your whole team. It'll be similar to this:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_breakdown.asp?code=74,109,168,194,228,564,622,782,788,896,927
...but with detailed player stats and the added feature of having transfers accounted for.

I'm going to create a user account system where you can store lots of teams under your profile, which will help massively if you have lots of teams in private leagues that you want to monitor. A prime example would be Zimmerman could set up all the teams from his La Log League so that working out each team's points for each set of matches would be a walk in the park.

Eventually I'll have a system where you can set up and run a mini-league through the website, with league tables, email reports and other useful stuff, but that will be a long way off yet.

Boo :P

This will take a long time to do so your spreadsheets will still be useful :D

One day you may be able to write a function to import the details from my mini-league system into Excel, then we'd have the best of both worlds!

It's been a while coming but I have finally moved into the next phase of my grand plan for the DreamData website. What I have done is create a user account system that anyone is able to register for.

Having a user account means you will be able to access all the really useful stuff on the website, but also means you'll be able to store information on it too. Soon (perhaps by the middle of next week) I will launch the My Team page, which will allow you to enter, save and analyse your team/s through the site. Eventually you'll be able to use your account to manage or participate in mini leagues too.

Other features I have added are:
- The Club Stats page (http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/club_stats.asp) which has a raft of stats for clubs as a whole.
- The Fixtures/Results by Club page (http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/fixtures_results_by_club.asp), which will only be accessible to those with a user account.

So, get yourself a user account by registering here: http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/register.asp

I guess it won't be long before you're running your own competetion, offering huge prizes, making a mint, ballsing up the scores etc. :D

Would it be possible to add a "admin" button for us members deemed worthy? So not having to remember the admin url!

I'm going to integrate the user account login with the admin login so that the admins get some extra buttons and can change their password to something easier to remember. I've just not had time to do it yet (I finished the latest update at 1am!), but it will mean you don't have to remember the admin URL :-)

Awaiting the goodies... There's plenty already isn't there :P!

Certainly the fixtures lists will be useful to members who either run/participate in weekly and monthly competitions, and Zarch couldn't live without his detailed player stats page (especially as it has his name on it!). The My Team page will need to be the nuts if I'm going to attract lots of members to the site, so I'll be working hard on that over the weekend while the wife is away with the girlies. I also need to give the site a good dose of SEO, so that randomers looking for DreamTeam player stats can find the site in Google.

Much work left to do... and all for the benefit of you guys (and girls)!

Jules,

In addition to the NOTW2 and NOTW8 columns indicating the amount of times they have been allocated each of those, could you add a "NOTW Pts" totalling things up?

Oh, and the ability to sort on that new column too?

I suppose if I did add the NotW totals it'd be useful to have totals of other stuff, such as ratings points, defensive points, goals points, etc... Fitting all that in may make the report look cluttered, so I think I'll divide the detailed stats page into two, with all the totals on the second page. I was thinking actually that I needed to put the PPM^0.4 (or whatever the formula was) on the site as I found that useful in the past.

I could also calculate "projected points" based on the points scoring rate, games played ratio and number of games remaining. The formula would be something like:
Current Points + (Points Per Game * (Games Remaining * (Games Played / Games Available)))

Drogba would be in line to score 369 points (calculated as 141 + (10.1 * (29 * (14 / 18)))) which seems fairly realistic given his start, though it doesn't account for form, all the fixtures aren't known yet (progress through the cups etc...) and we know that Drogba is off the the ACON, but as the season goes on it may help to indicate players who are under/over-performing.

Hi Jules, I don't seem to be able to import data from your site into Excel using a web query - is this a problem at my end or something you have restricted. Normally tables in the html are selectable in the import web data function within Excel - data from your site doesn't seem to comply. I am using Excel 2007

Hi jpk,

What exact page/URL are you trying to import from? Some pages are protected in that a user has to log in to see the content, but the basic points pages are open for use in Excel. Andi_Jones is the Excel guru so he may be able to help, but I expect there will be issues importing data from the areas of the site that you have to be logged in to view.

Hi Mark,

Depending on how many matches are played I guess I spend a couple of hours a week working on the site. I get help from Zimmerman for entering the stats/ratings info when he can, so that is a great help. Sometimes we're ahead of the Sun for getting the points updated, though often we're a few hours behind, but the point of the website is really for analysing the players and their points scoring in more detail, which the Sun currently doesn't offer.

I'm in charge of my dad's works league and despite the fact I have 3 of the top 4 teams out of 81 in total, everyone trusts the points to be correct and everyone finds the website useful to see why their players are doing rubbish and why mine are doing much better!

I try and work on adding more features to the site in my spare time but I've not had much of that in the last couple of months, though I do have plenty more planned for the site. I'm hoping that I'll get the time to finish the My Team page before the end of the month, but it's proving a bigger task than I first envisaged. If you've got any ideas of what could be added to the site then feel free to post them here and I'll see what I can do.

Jules

Had the same problem... but just like you the problem was my end!

In some of my teams, Cahill has been awarded 8 pts extra, Collins has been deducted 2 pts too much, and Lampard has been awarded 2 pts extra...

The points in the player list on my site are correct, and the Sun have only two players wrong (Rafael and Da Costa - as detailed in another post). They did have a few problems getting the points correct with goalkeepers and defenders yesterday but they've sorted all but those two.

Perhaps the points in your team view haven't been updated properly yet?

I've had a genius little idea when trying to analyse options of who I will be transferring into my teams... A way to view the stats for a shortlist of players!

If you're a site member, go to http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp, fill in the little box with the player codes you want to compare and click 'view shortlist'. You can then sort the shortlist by most of the columns to help you decide on your transfers.

EXAMPLES
If you were looking at the top midfielders, it'll generate a URL like this:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp?shortlist=508,564,691,501,562,622,773

If you were looking at cheap defenders, it'll generate a URL like this:
http://www.julianandsarah.com/dreamteam/points_detail.asp?shortlist=401,109,410,434,366,450,312,420

I've not tested it thoroughly as I knocked it up in 15 minutes, but it seems to work well!

Jules, as you have all the match results, how about some analysis/charts around clean sheets?

Total:
Home Cleans
Away Cleans
Home & Away Cleans

Last 6 games:
Home Cleans
Away Cleans
Home & Away Cleans

Matches Since a clean
Most cleans in a row this season

Differentiate between league and cup competitions (group fa cup/carling/europa/champs all together)

What you think? Has it got legs?

It's got legs, although I'm not sure how helpful some of those stats will be. I'd planned to do a lot with the Club Stats page and this sort of thing would have gone on that page, but I didn't have time to finish it.

I can't tell you when I'll have time to develop it. I've really only had a smidgen of time to work on the site over the past few months and when I do get some free time, often the last thing I want to do is sit infront of a computer screen! It'll definitely go on my jobs list for the site though. I think I'll have more inclination to make time for it at the end of the season, when all the reports will help with player analysis for next season.
