...that Duane Allman - one of the all-time great rock guitarists - was killed at the tragically early age of 24.

Most know his work without realising due to his presence on several famous sessions - in particular those for Derek and the Dominos' Layla album (he played the searing guitar breaks that counterpoint the classic riff on the title track).

Rated as #2 guitarist (behind Hendrix) in Rolling Stone's all-time list - pioneer of the use of 'bottleneck' slide guitar in rock and the whole southern rock sound. Lynyrd Skynyrd dedicated Freebird to him after his death.
