Wolves will be without right-back Ronald Zubar for at least a month after learning that he requires surgery to remove an ankle spur. He was out injured with a hamstring strain.

Carlo Ancelotti may gamble on Alex's fitness at Aston Villa on Saturday if John Terry fails to recover from a back problem.

Branislav Ivanovic is Chelsea's only fit centre-half after Terry suffered back spasms on England duty. Alex, who was expected to be out for three weeks after limping off against Arsenal nine days ago, has resumed light training and could be ready in time

LFC update re Torres

Adductor strain - "He will have intensive treatment over the next couple of weeks but it is too early to say if he will be fit for the game against Everton."

LFC now more optimistic about Torres

He has had intense treatment over the last 10 days and responded very well to that treatment. He's ready to resume training today [weds] and if we can build up his training and get through the next few days, then we are optimistic but not certain that he will be able to line up against Everton.

"It's still early days but so far so good. He has responded well to the treatment but we will just have to wait and see whether he is able to build up his training sufficiently.

"He'll join in the full training session on Thursday, then build up Friday and Saturday. If he gets through these sessions and he is able to stretch out fully and has no after effect from the sessions then he will be able to play.

"So we are optimistic he will be ready but it's still too early to say for sure."

Darren Bent

“Benty’s had a scan and England have confirmed that he won’t play any part tonight,” Bruce said.

“We’re hoping it’s not too serious but Darren’s still with England at the moment so we won’t put any timescales until our own medical team have had a chance to assess the injury"

Telegraph

Sunderland don't play until Monday, perhaps making it more hopeful [conjecture]

John Terry is hoping to declare himself fit to be in the Chelsea team to face Aston Villa on Saturday but there is concern that Frank Lampard will miss the Premier League match as he continues his slow recovery from a groin operation.

Arsenal update....................

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... ut-injured

Fab is out :(

Theo Walcott is back in the Arsenal squad for Saturday’s game against Birmingham - but Laurent Koscielny will miss out.
The centre back has been struggling with a back problem and his absence may open the door for Johan Djourou to return to the side with Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles) also injured.

Arsène Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday that Walcott could return from the ankle problem he suffered on international duty five weeks ago and those plans were firmed up at the manager’s pre-match press conference.

“We have Theo Walcott who is coming back and we have Nicklas Bendtner back in the squad. The team is not picked yet, but they are back in the squad,” said Wenger.

“It is good because they have been out for quite a while. Since last November, Bendtner has been in and out, and he was never really himself. Walcott has been out now for five weeks so it is good to have them back.”

Then came the bad news.

“We have lost Laurent Koscielny who is injured with his back. Thomas Vermaelen is still out, he is ten days away,” reported Wenger.

The Frenchman also confirmed that Cesc Fabregas :( would miss the visit of Birmingham but the captain could return to face Shakhtar Donetsk at Emirates Stadium three days later.

“He has a chance for Tuesday,” said Wenger. “I thought he would play tomorrow. There is nothing specially wrong, he is just a bit short for tomorrow.”

Everton news update:

- Marouane Fellaini injured his hamstring on international duty with Belgium and may be out for a month

- also out of the Liverpool tie are Steven Pienaar (groin problem), Victor Anichebe and Jack Rodwell

- Sunday's derby match is likely to come too soon for Phil Jagielka (hamstring injury) and Louis Saha.

Manchester City's Kolo Toure out for 2 weeks with hamstring strain; Yaya should be fit for Thursday however

Man Utd's Ryan Giggs tweaked his hamstring again at the weekend; SAF say he needs a "longer recovery" than last time

Stoke's Ricardo Fuller popped his shoulder out again at the weekend; Pulis says they intend to "fix it properly" this time so presumably he's out for a few games

Properly fixing a shoulder means an operation and (from memory) at least three months out.

Now Stoke say Fuller might be back for the weekend. So much for a proper fix!

Chelsea's Ramires has flown home from Moscow with an ankle knock; doesn't sound too serious however; worth noting that Lampard and Drogba have both travelled

"Rooney will not be involved after being stretchered off at the end of training on Tuesday."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 104392.stm

14:15 Sir Alex was asked if Wayne Rooney will play. He responds, smiling broadly: "Wayne's injured. It's an ankle injury." Remember, the Rooney issue will be discussed further after this press conference.

14:14 Jonny Evans is injured and won't play tomorrow. "He got a hip injury in training over the last week sometime. He’s out."

LFC injury update (bear in mind that this relates to 'only' a UEFA Cup for which Gerrard and Torres haven't even travelled)

Hodgson is also without Glen Johnson (injury) and Daniel Agger (illness) for the trip to Italy, but Christian Poulsen is fit to return to the squad after missing Sunday's defeat to Everton.

EDIT - more detail

"After being injured, Agger is now sick, so he has ruled himself out.

"Dirk Kuyt has a wicked ankle injury. Everyone tells me it looks worse than it really is and I certainly hope that is the case because it does not look good. It is still very badly swollen.

"Christian Poulsen has recovered and is okay.

"Glen Johnson is still out injured but I saw he is running today and I would hope he would be back in training when we return on Friday. So he's not ruled out for Sunday - but is for Thursday."

Villa have been dealt a blow after Luke Young was ruled out of the next three games with a torn hamstring.

But manager Gerard Houllier has received better news on Emile Heskey (back), Marc Albrighton (virus) and Richard Dunne (ankle) with the trio all set to be in contention for Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.

However, Young and Gabby Agbonlahor (groin) will definitely miss the Stadium of Light visit, with the former also expected to miss the forthcoming games with Burnley and Birmingham after scans revealed the problem picked up in training last Friday is worse than first feared.

Houllier said: “The doc has told me Luke will need at least another two weeks because it is a minor tear. It’s a blow because it’s worse than we initially thought.

“Richard has trained normally. Marc returned to training on Monday. By Tuesday and yesterday he was doing everything. Emile is much better. He trained normally yesterday.

“As for Gabby, I hope at some stage next week he may be able to train.

“He won’t be involved this weekend.”

Arteta a doubt. Still no Pienaar, Rodwell, Fellaini, Anichebe and Saha for the weekend.
