First up, Sean O'Hair has a stress fracture to his forearm:

Quote:
It didn't take long for the injury bug to bite. Sean O'Hair, Vijay Singh and Robert Allenby all suffered varying levels of injuries last week with O'Hair's being the most serious -- he has a stress fracture in his left forearm. Singh, meanwhile, tweaked his back and Allenby twisted his ankle. As for O'Hair, he'll get his forearm examined in Philadelphia and will probably be out until Pebble Beach or the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Source: PGATour.com

Hopefully it's no more serious - I'm a big fan of O'Hair's and as many of you know, he could turn into a big talent.

PS - could a Mod sticky this, unstick last season's thread, and then remove this last sentence please? Seems sensible to start a fresh thread for a new season.

One for the future Phil Mickelson will miss World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship due to a couple of procedures his wife has to go through.

Lee Westwood made his 2010 debut in the U.S. two weeks ago at Accenture Match Play. After a week off, he was hoping to be ready for the Florida Swing and then Augusta. Those plans may be on hold.

Westwood tweaked his right knee last week at home in Worksop, England. Although he is at PGA National this week for The Honda Classic, it may only be as a tourist. Westwood is contemplating withdrawing.

“If the tournament started today I probably won’t be able to play.” Westwood said. “I strained my medial ligament and it’s seven to 10 days for a Grade 1 strain.”

Westwood was pulling a boot onto his foot last Thursday and strained the knee.

“I’d love to say snowboarding and man biking,” Westwood said laughing about how he injured himself. “I guess in most people’s line of work they don’t need to use the medial ligament quite as hard as I do.”

The Englishman said the injury is most difficult on his downswing, when the joint in his knee opens up.

Westwood will decide Wednesday if he has to withdraw.

This posted today on his own site:

Quote:
Lee travelled to Florida on Sunday, for the Honda Classic, which takes place at the PGA National Resort and Spa at Palm Beach, on the Champion Course. He last took part in this event in 2006, when he finished T55th.

Unfortunately, during his week off, Lee pulled a ligament at the back of his knee, but has been given advice by Dr Steve McGregor on how to keep it in check.

Lee has a 7.26 start from the 10th tee on Thursday with Matt Bettencourt and Graeme McDowell.

Suggests he'll play?

He is still appearing on the pga tour tee times list and with all the bookies, would check later this evening though!

Something gone funny with your hyperlink, Lister.

(When I'm back from school run, I'll post on this on the Betting forum - Ladbrokes have him at 4/1 for the Masters)

Jose Maria Olazabal, champion at Augusta in 1994 and 1999, is again suffering from rheumatism and will be pulling out of the tournament.

Only four years ago Olazabal finished joint third there and was also part of the winning Ryder Cup team. This will be the first Masters he's missed since 1996.

Very sad, with both Watson and Norman having 'Major' revivals in the last few years, Jose Maria and Seve seem a million miles from doing likewise :(

Looks like a lot of people picked Vijay in the high stakes1 league because No Show is the most popular selection

I haven't seen this posted but Kaymer is having some pins removed from his ankle after the Masters & probably won't be back until the Players Championship. I don't have a link but I heard it a few times from the commentators while watching the WGC last week.

Apparently a bad back.

As for Kaymer, if that's true that's very interesting, as previously he said he was keeping them in until the end of the season as he didn't want to disrupt his schedule as he expected the removal would lead to some pain/soreness. Suggests it might be bothering him more than he anticipated.

Regarding Kaymer I've managed to find this; http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/03/14/1 ... n-the.html

Surgeons inserted screws and plates to stabilize the foot and will take them out shortly after he competes in the Masters. He will be away from golf for three weeks.

ROUND 1 UPDATE (8:48 a.m.) -- Surprising news just as the first round gets under way from the Redstone Course -- defending champion Paul Casey has withdrawn from the event due to injury.

Bob Stevens reports: Casey tweaked a muscle in his back -- near his left shoulder -- in Wednesday's pro-am. Casey said it was not related at all to the chest muscle he hurt late last season, that he hoped it was a "sleeping wrong" kind of tweak.

Casey was one of my Protour selections this week :x I also made him captain in the Scotsman & Evening post games

Rory McIlroy, who has been nursing the recurrence of a back problem for over two months, spoke after his Masters exit of possibly not playing again until six weeks' time.

"I am just not myself at the moment and this is the sort of golf course that makes your mistakes look even worse when you are slightly off. I am supposed to play Quail Hollow in a couple of weeks, but I might need a bit more time to let this injury clear up and clear my head. Maybe I'll come back at Wentworth [May 20-23]."
