From Rotoworld:

According to iseekgolf.com, Robert Allenby incurred a wrist injury over the weekend, and may not be able to compete in this week's U.S. Open.

"I took my kids out fishing on Sunday in the boat and I must have twisted it somehow throwing the fish up on to the boat and then back into the water," said Allenby during his practice round this afternoon. "I can hardly hold the club at the moment. ... I can’t even squeeze my fist at present it is hurting so much. ... I will get some physio this afternoon and have some more treatment." He withdrew after nine holes of the St. Jude Classic due to tonsilitis, which he has opted to combat with antibiotics over having his tonsils removed. "Then yesterday the wrist came up and there is also some bruising on the right arm as well. I am not 100% sure that it isn’t a reaction to the antibiotics but I now feel confident that is a case of doing too much on the boat last Sunday." With respect to his ability to play this week, Allenby said, "I won’t make a final decision until Thursday morning." He is scheduled to go off the first tee at 7:55 a.m. PT. Jun. 15 - 10:22 pm et

Matt Kuchar withdrew late on Tuesday from the Travelers Championship. Kuchar was one of the favorites to win this week because of his stellar play this season. He has been replaced in the field by Marco Dawson.

Allenby is a cheat... biggest load of rubbish.

"Can hardly hold a club" but can manage to play 72 holes at a US OPEN... Typical Aussie stuff.

Some less known golfers have also decided to withdraw this week.

"Nathan Green and Tom Gillis have withdrawn from the Travelers Championship. They will be replaced by Glen Day and Kirk Triplett."

Ross McGowan also a casualty.

Manassero also a doubt after getting hit on the hand with a golf ball.

Ross McGowan, who lies in fifth place on Europe’s Ryder Cup table, pulled out because of a swollen right wrist.

McGowan, who retired during last week’s BMW International Open, will also miss next week’s Scottish Open in a bid to get fit for the British Open at St Andrews. He flew home on Wednesday to see a specialist.

Karlsson also W/d.

From his twitter feed:

Had to pull out of French Open after one round with a strained wrist. Ice and rest is the remedy. Will be back for the British Open.

Not quite an Injury, but......

Edfors is switching to play Cobra clubs. Can't find out for definite who he is leaving, some images suggest he used Callaway of late, but worth watching out for.

Perhaps more pertinent for next season, however, is the suggestion that Villegas is leaving Cobra to join Taylor Made. Hope he gives himself enough time to get used to them!

Carl Pettersson will NOT play this week at the WGC-Bridgestone invitational due to a prior family commitment. He should be in the USPGA field the following week, however.

As for Watney, he had "personal reasons" for pulling out of the Greenbrier. Crystal clear, then. :|

Cheers Tony. I am doing terribly this year, but had thought a couple of weeks ahead for once to make sure I had just the right amount of cash to get Allenby into both my teams - fancied him both this week and next - typical! :?

I know Shaun is going to get the heebie-jeebies when he sees I've updated this thread mid-comp and wonders who it is......

Lee Westwood has WD from Firestone and also next week's PGA Championship with his right calf problem.

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

Official confirmation from Rotoworld.com (and more chat from Lee on the doctors telling him to sit on his arse to rest it, which I distinctly remember him ignoring & commenting on ignoring a few weeks back):

Quote:
Lee Westwood called it quits after his second-round 76 in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational today, citing a torn muscle in his calf, and he will withdraw from next week's PGA Championship.
Specifically, Europe's top-ranked golfer is dealing with a ruptured plantaris muscle in his right ankle. It's the same malady that plagued him at St. Andrews. "It just seems to be getting worse," Westwood said afterwards. "There’s no strength in it. I don’t have a deal of confidence in it, and then on the way down I’m finding it hard to hold my weight on it and then push off." In reference to the healing process, Westwood relayed his doctors' advice: "Sit on my backside for six weeks like they keep telling me. It’s the only way to improve it. I’d like to be working out and I can’t put any weight on it in the gym, so my legs feel weak. That’s just it." He's in for an extended rest. "I will be out for as long as it takes to get right," Westwood said. "Hopefully it will be in time for the Ryder Cup [on October 1-3]."
