Hi all,

We are thinking about picking up some cheap floor stuff from Ikea - the new place has ugly (c)old green tiles on the floor and we hope that a little bit of parquet might warm the place up.

We are just going to get the cheap stuff which is 8€ per m2 out here - the question is, how much do we need to add for extras - the underlay, the skirting board stuff etc. - I was hoping that if any of you have laid some recently you may be able to give an estimate - like 50% extra, or 100% extra for example.

Thanks in advance!

Use fibre board for the under lay and it will cost about £30 for a room or the roll up foamy stuff which is far cheaper but more bangy and cold.

Scotias for the outside cost about £10 for 2m here................

I reckon its about 20% ...................

Cheers for the quick reply Groomy. I guess it obviously depends on the size of your rooms and the shape to a lesser extent, but I had imagined it would be quite a bit extra.

The flats here have these old ceramic tiles on them, that are cold and Ikea here recommend that we use both the materials - the fibreboard, and the polyethylene - do you think that is overkill? We probably need to use the former anyway to get a decent flat surface as some of the tiles have lost little bit, and the gaps between them are quite deep.

Thanks again.

I'd say its over kill. Fibre board gives the best insulation, noise reduction and is very easy to cut and work with.

However the roll up stuff is dirt cheap so its not a huge issue.
