Tokyo! By way of the Yukon I think, maybe some years in Paris left bank stylin'. Would have to learn Japanese and I hear it's hard. Hope it's like Neuromancer there.

I don't really want to go anywhere but if I had to come up with some choices then it would be Wales, Scotland or the USA. I don't suppose Wales and Scotland would count as emigrating if you live in the west midlands. :)

As it happens Me, Mrs Jeffers and the two mini Jeffers are thinking of uprooting to Spain. Not really done much investigating yet apart from looking at Villa prices.
I assume I would have to have a job there to gain residency?

Probably Somewhere around Murcia or Almeria.

Thailand. It's all sorted. bought the house already in Udon Thani (NW Thailand) - near Laos border. My wife is Thai (but lived here for 14 years). I also speak fluent Thai.

Get out of the tourist areas of Thailand and there's a different country. People beautiful, countryside beautiful and F**ing cheap. I sit in the garden and enjoy a few beers with my neighbours (either various Europeans or Thais) - or maybe I go to their place.

Either way, I can buy 6 large bottles of 6.8% Chang beer, 20 marlboro and a packet of ice for less than £4. Sit in my shorts and t-shirt just listening to my ipod whilst watching the amazing scenery around me.

Meanwhile I plod on in London but I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

I though non-Thai people could not own property in Thailand - assume it's in your wifes name

Half-seriously contemplating Vancouver. Gulf stream means it apparently doesn't get the harsh Canadian winters, close to plenty of Canada's great outdoors, close to Vail, lots of golf......

My new dentist lived there for 10 years. His comment was that it, like the nation, lacks some culture & history, but is a great place if you like the outdoors.

I loved PEI when I went to a wedding there, but the harsh winter is a no-no for the mrs.

One of my aunties was born on PEI  . Grandad lived on Nova Scotia for a while before moving
to saskatchewan and I've got one auntie born in NS and one on PEI. Apparently not as bad as saskatchewan in winter. minus 40 - the chickens feet used to freeze and fall off if you left them out!!

I've only ever been to Florida and New York. Clearwater, John's Pass and Treasuer Island were all very nice but of course it's difficult to make an assessment when you're on holiday.

What I like about America is that you are so obviously abroad and yet it's all so familiar.

I live in the US part of the year and my parents are there so that would be my choice as an easy fit..

I have a place in New York and Phoenix but if I was spending more than 6 months there I would settle in New Hampshire or New England as they are wonderful places and I have lots of friends there already....

That would do for me
Would fancy long stays in Australia and/or NZ as well but I would struggle to beat the above for long term..

Canada won't let us in, the hospital bills in the US are too high, I think I'll stay in Toxteth.

This sums up perfectly why I love the states (so if I did ever manage to 'grow a pair' & emigrate it would definitely be my number one destination)...

We'll be taking Tiny Spiny for his first Florida experience next November. Can't wait although the journey will be a challenge for him. No doubt will look around some of the Florida suburbs and get the urge to uproot again. Don't think we ever would though.

:D Awesome stuff. I seriously considered doing this a few years ago. Only problem was an income. Did a compromise and moved to Portugal, which gives the family a lifestyle and me access to European employment markets (my weekly door-to-door commute is about the same as another bloke who does a weekly drive from Plymouth !) It is funny though, seeing the same old plodders, with no tunnel and no light, each week

I think it changed slightly. You can buy leaseholds, or use a company.

I'd only emigrate if I no longer had to work. No point trying to live a good life if you could only get a McJob.

When we went to NZ I did try and figure out a way of affording to stay there but even though life is cheap it ain't that cheap.

Love France now. Beautiful countryside, better weather, less chavs, footie would be on TV at sensible times, easy enough to pop 'home'. The lingo would be a problem but we aren't very sociable so we'd be OK! Got half a plan to 'semi retire' there but still cant quite get the numbers to add up. Maybe after 2 of 3 big FF wins.....

Still think the above.

I think semi-retiring is out of the question. All or nothing really and I'm worth a lot less (pension, shares, house) due to the credit crunch so I won't be retiring just yet. Plus I do like my life here at the moment so no rush. Not exactly a fan of working but my job could be so much worse.
