Its been blow up ( excuse the pun) to be the next Platoon or something but I thought it was all rather bombastic and ok and nothing particularly profound. ANyone esle think it was just another US war film? :?

I've not seen it, but do remember when it came out hearing an interview with an actual bomb disposal guy who said the scenes in the film were total fiction, factually incorrect in many ways.

It'll probably win best picture then

It's quite a good film actually. Best thing I saw out of Hollywood in 2009. Not much competition apart from Avatar.

I watched this last night and loved it. I don't know the first thing about bomb disposal, so couldn't comment on how factual it was, but i enjoyed it all the same.

As for it being over-rated, i can't honestly say i've heard too much about it, so i would say (personally), no, not over-rated.

Definitely my film of 2009. If you haven't watched it, you should.

However, never having participated in bomb-disposal work myself I can't comment on the veracity of those particular scenes

But what tension there was seem to be due to the bomb disposal guys going to near the bomb everytime. Jez renners character seemed absurd. Surely he would be the most likely to be blown up and so not have disposed of a record 874 devices. All the Iraqis in the film are portayed as shifty and stupid and why were Fiennes and Pearce in the movie if they werent going to last very long? Were they there just to sell an average movie from a well-connected director. I think its nommed purely because it portrays US troops in a positive light- not dropping bombs on Iraqis for once but difusing them so to save Iraqis.
