Another thread which will no doubt die out after the next few days... if in deed it gets going at all

With the completely new points rules, how many points do you reckon we need to be at the top come the end of the season. In the past it seems somewhere around 30 -35 per week would be sufficient... I'm guessing this will be more like 50 this season? - If so, not looking good for those of us (including me) who are starting to fall behind the 500 point mark at the moment.

What does everyone else think...

To ensure you get at least one reply, I don't have a scooby doo, but it will most likely be a good 200+ above my final score. I was disappointed to lose places yesterday even though I have RVP, Mata, Adam and Aguero. It's tough this time out now it has got all serious.

Sorry I can't offer more useful information.

It's pretty impossible to know, because for example if Rooney and Suarez get injured before Christmas then everyone will have a forward line of RVP and Aguero, and if those two each go on to score 35 goals, everyone's score will be about 200 points higher. (Haven't done the maths, but you get my point?)

I think what you need to look at is ensuring you stay within 'touching distance' of the leaders, a decent rule of thumb is you're in with a shout if you're within 100 points (maybe more if you've got significantly above-average transfers in hand)

The average per week at the moment is over 65 points per week so I would imagine that the total points winner will get around 2300 or points over the season - the man of the match awards have seriously inflated points this year compared to previous years.

I strongly feel, being an expert player of this game for just 10 weeks  , that there is only one ideal formation that your team should be playing each week in order to gain the most points every week.
I would say that the winning team overall would have employed this formation on his/her team for most weeks over the season.

Aye, pretty much forced into a 4, 3, 3 imo. Strikers just too important this year, with defenses being shocking and the different rules to FPL.

Lampard, Silva, Rooney, RVP and Suerez pretty much my points engine room, with the odd helping from defense (the obvious picks) and Nasri. (Edit Don't really mind people knowing my team for the most part, doubt it makes much difference in my position at the moment.

202 last I checked earlier. Staying within 100 points distance of the leader at the moment would be the minimum requirement I would suggest. Eventually it will come down to who has available transfers and captain choices as most teams will start to look similar I would think.

A couple of seasons ago, in the run in with around about 8 weeks left, I was 70 odd points behind the leader and ended up nearly 100 in front of him. Admittedly I didn't win any prizes, and he was out of transfers way before me, but you can climb a lot in this game.

No idea what it will take to win this as it's my first season playing, but I have a team on 581 points in 270th position. It could have been a lot higher if I had not swapped my captain this week. Van Persie - Suarez

these were in it in past years too - think it uses to be 3 points which was same as a goal or maybe one point less.

as Jonathan says you can catch up from quite a way back in this game. so long as you have transfers left and a few different genuine captain options... think i came back from 10000 to 2nd in the second half of the season a few years back - but then u could see other peoples teams and then pick players people above you don't have to try and catch up. im thinking with hidden teams it will be harder to catch up this year so maybe people are right in saying its important not to drop far behind

But then there is a very good chance you were not the only one to have done that

At least you didn't use a transfer to take RVP out this week  . That really came back to bite me

Lots of transfers in the bag and wanted to take a gamble to get Aguero's double points.

Didn't fully make sense to start with and certainly doesn't now. But i won't win unless i take a few chances along the way that come i guess.

I think I need my head examined. I only went and done it again - chose Suarez over Van Persie as my captain

Out to 650th position now. I really like my team but I have to start to getting these Captains right.

Up to 192 with seven transfers spent. Not bad, not great. Keeping faith with Van the man from the start has payed off at least and lamps.

Anyone else keeping faith with Shrek aka Rooney? Season keeper for me, even if he is going through his annual dry phase (like the Sahara at the mo!) 8-)

Agreed Brian.

Whilst I wont be giving him the captains armband anytime soon, Im not even considering getting rid of him regardless of where abouts on the pitch he will be playing.

I actually think Rooney could score more points in this game playing from Midfield.
